Pioneer Electronics (USA) Inc. continues to enhance the in-vehicle smartphone experience by announcing that 16 more Android-based smartphones are compatible with AppRadio Mode in-dash receivers, including highly popular models from Samsung, HTC, Motorola and Sony. Compatibility with current and newly added Android smartphone devices enables the use and enjoyment of dozens of today’s most popular apps directly from the screen of AppRadio Mode products, including AppRadio 3 (SPH-DA210 and SPH-DA110) and AppRadio 2 smartphone receivers, AVH-X8500BHS DVD receiver, and AVIC-X950BH and AVIC-Z150BH navigation receivers.

Connecting the newly compatible smartphones requires Pioneer’s CD-AH200C Android Connection Kit (sold separately). The original Samsung Connector (EPL-3FHUBEGSTD) is also required for the Samsung Galaxy Note II, Galaxy S3 and Galaxy S4 in addition to the Android Connection Kit.

Below are the latest compatible smartphones, with green indicating the newly announced device models and black showing previously confirmed models that are now compatible with the updated Android operating systems. More than 40 Android devices are compatible with AppRadio Mode receivers. For more information and a complete list of compatible smartphone models, please visit www.pioneerelectronics.com/android

    AppRadio 2 Firmware Update v8.30 (2/15/2013)
Firmware support for iPhone® 5 and fifth generation iPod® touch.
iPhone 5 compatibility requires the use/purchase of:
    Pioneer CD-IH202 interface cable kit
Apple® Lightning to Digital AV Adapter
    Apple USB to Lightning cable
[*]Do not install this update if you do not own an iPhone 5 or fifth generation iPod touch. A member has reported issues after updating with a iPhone 4S.

    Download here: Pioneer.com

After testing the iPhone 5 with the 30 pin adapter and the current cable from pioneer:
Supports audio iPod output with ID3 data and album art
Supports audio out apps (like Pandora)
Supports controls (track change, thumb up, thumb down, next, etc)
Will NOT support video iPod, video app, or Enhanced App Radio functions.

Without the 30 pin adapter, (using the included USB cable) all you can do is charge the phone on the X/F/Z Series.
It appears that the newer AVH Series units support direct USB connection.

    Navteq maps
HD Radio Artist experience (Album art for stations)
Advanced App Mode: gives the ability to control apps from the headunit just as you can with AppRadio.
All of the same apps that are compatible with AppRadio, are now compatible with the new AVIC's.
[*]SPP BT profile to add Android/Blackberry support for Pandora and Aha.

    Pioneer AVIC HACKMODE by Condi

Finally we've got full access to new Pioneer units!
After many tries, many scripts, I think that
its proper state to be released.

SO FAR CONFIRMED TO WORK ON:

    F30BT (tested by me )
    X920BT (thanks to Krms!)
    X930BT (thanks to Ralpharn!)
Z110BT with Z120BT firmware (thanks to PatrickFernandes!)
    F920BT (thanks to Tudor Z!)
    F20BT (thanks to wikke!)
    ...

    !!!!!
I'm not responsible of any damage/brick,
so all of this you are doing at your own risk.
Its working on my unit perfectly,
but its not 100% sure that it will work on yours!

    FOR EDUCATIONAL PURPOSES ONLY!
THERE IS NONE OF PIONEER SOFTWARE INCLUDED,
THIS 'HACK' IS MADE WITH FREE SOFTWARE,
    = NO COPYRIGHTS ARE BROKEN!
    !!!!!

On the new units standard testmode with windows explorer
is not working. Funny is, that on the newer units
    there is no even explorer.exe
    Fortunately we've got GGS1080 with TESTMODE.KEY,
which is working on F30BT, and other units also, I think.
But plain Pioneers Service Mode is not handy and 'usable' for us.
To hack Pioneer device I used Pioneers 'service mode'.

OK, so everything what we will need is in the attachment.
Below are detailed instructions, but in few words
we need to delete Av.exe, and copy hackfiles to its place.

    Changes/Improvements/Issues:

    - Image table update for all May 2011 XM lineup changes including new channels and channel name/number changes.

    - Update of all images from the latest channel guide.

    - Sports channels still alternate between "Sports XXX", "NBA XXX" etc. and "Sports Play-By-Play". The logo will only appear if the channel name uses the name with the number in it, i.e. "Sports 190" or "NBA 218", etc. There is no way to avoid this and at this time I still don't know which naming scheme is ideal to associate with the logo.

    - There are no category logo updates in this release as all the major categories are covered. I have no source for category images as XM does not provide them.

    Installing:

    - You will need to know how to modify the media for your particular AVIC series. See the stickied posts in the hacks/mod forum related to your unit for details.

    - Locate the folder containing the XMCAT, XMDAT, XMLPS, and XMDPS directory. On the Z series this the AV subdirectory of the SDAT volume. On the F series this was reported to be MyFlashDisk/DATA/XM. On the D/N series these folders are in the root directory of the 2 map DVDs.

    - As always when doing such updates on the Z and F series be sure to make backups of your XMCAT, XMDAT, XMLPS, and XMDPS directories.

    - Simply copy the files in the pack over any existing files for each directory (XMCAT, XMDAT, XMLPS, and XMDPS). Do not delete any files.

The latest software version 2.003 has just been released! This software is for the AVIC-X920BT, AVIC-Z120BT (and the AVIC-Z110BT that has been updated to the 2010 software.) Fixes: Phonebook contacts are no longer being displayed backwards (Last Name, First Name) on the headunit when using V-Cards. Contacts now always show (First name, Last Name). The biggest fix is that VR cataloging now starts correctly when the ok button is pressed.

Why your Ford warranty is worthless...
I don't usually post rants, but I'm sure this has happened or will happen to someone else.

I'll shorten the story down to a few simple points:

It all starts with my 2007 Ford Mustang. The rear differential went out at 36k miles; the drivetrain warranty is 5yr/60k.
My car gets towed to the nearest dealer, they spend 4 days looking at it, then tell me it's not covered under the warranty due to "driving beyond the vehicle's limit" and now wants $2600 to repair it. I ended up buying a new rear end assembly from new take off and had my dealer install it, it came out to $2133 with rental car expenses, which I'll be seeking in reimbursement.

I did attend an arbitration meeting regarding the $2k differential reimbursement, for which I of course was denied, since it was a Ford arbitration... The absolute ignorance of Ford astounded me. I expected to actually talk to some engineers or at least product managers during the arbitration, however it was basically just a dealer service rep and two other equally clueless people. They made grossly inaccurate statements during the arbitration, things like: "If you spin the tires...it's not normal, and we're not responsible to fix it". "An open differential will spin both tires" and "a 3.55 gear ratio is not factory and is used for racing" The people trying to fight me didn't have the slightest clue what they were talking about, It was like arguing with a 6 year old, no intellectual conversion, just infuriating rewording and repetition over and over. I'll have the audio recording posted as soon as I get a copy of the tape. Update: They will not give me the audio recording, they will only provide a transcript...

UPDATE 2/18/11: So after replacing the rear end, guess what breaks about two months later? The driveshaft... I'm driving (80ish) along on the highway and the driveshaft basically exploded...it honestly sounded like a bomb went off under my car, a piece of something came up through the bottom of the car and broke the plastic around the handbrake. Anyway, Ford is using the same "not normal conditions/abuse" excuse and refused to replace the obviously defective driveshaft under warranty; the service manager stating "it wouldn't have broken if you were driving normally". Great logic there Ford... So I'm out another ~$800, bringing the total to about $3000. I can't wait to see Ford explain their logic in court.

Update 2/24/11: After paying the $800 and waiting 5 days for a new driveshaft (the dealer said it would be done the next business day)...I go and pick it up, after paying, the service adviser comes out and says "If you bring it back we'll void your entire warranty, just some friendly advice". I replied, "You've pretty much already done that." and left. I was absolutely disgusted with Ford, and just knowing that the car cost me $3k under warranty for no legitimate reason made me sick. I decided to cut my losses and trade it in for a 2011 VW GTI. The GTI is a great car, handles SO much better, it's light, nimble, great on gas, and the build quality is phenomenal, leaps and bounds above the Mustang.

So the moral of my story is this: If you have a Ford vehicle, the dealer and/or Ford Corporate/Field Service Tech can deny your warranty repair for literately any reason they want, even if it's just some "expert's opinion" or some nonsensical cause like "non-factory wheels/tires" (another excuse Ford Corporate tried to use when I called them, even though they were OEM Shelby's with the same factory overall diameter... )

If you don't have a Ford, consider yourself lucky. If you ever have a warranty claim and it gets denied, you're in for a hell of a time. I'm never buying any Ford or Ford owned vehicle ever again.

I meant to post this on October 15th, but got caught up in all the recent upgrades, so it's a slightly belated birthday.
Anyway... AVIC411 is 5 years old! Happy Birthday to us!
AVIC411 was created on October 15th 2005 and started with just a few posts made by myself.
It's now 5 years (and a few days) later and we have grown to over 219,000 posts, and have over 45,000 members.
AVIC411 has gone through 3 major software changes (phpbb2, phpbb3, Invision Power Board) and has needed to move to a more powerful server 4 times. (We're now on a VDS with a quad core 2.33ghz Intel Xeon)

    Sooooo, lets do some math:

    5 years * 365 days = 1825 days.
    219,210 posts / 1825 days = ~120 posts per day!
    45,773 members / 1825 says = ~25 new members per day!

Thanks to everyone who has helped AVIC411 become what it is today.

Pioneer Electronics (USA) Inc., the leader in aftermarket car electronics technology, today unveiled its latest innovation, the game-changing AppRadio™. Drawing upon Pioneer’s technology integration expertise and following its “Rethinking Connectivity” strategy, AppRadio is the first in-vehicle product designed to utilize the processing power, storage capacity, network connectivity and apps of the iPhone and iPod touch (4th generation) as the primary source for its information and entertainment capabilities. Pioneer’s AppRadio also features the industry’s first capacitive touchscreen that enables control of most functions using similar touch and motion gestures as many of today’s most popular smartphones, but in a larger 6.1-inch screen designed specifically for safer in-vehicle operation. For safety and convenience, AppRadio features built-in Bluetooth1 for hands-free calling and an input for an optional vehicle mounted rear facing back-up camera.

“Pioneer is rethinking connectivity by tapping into the power of the smartphone, while simultaneously providing a solution that safely merges the consumer’s connected lifestyle into the vehicle,” said Ted Cardenas, director of marketing for the car electronics division of Pioneer Electronics (USA) Inc. “AppRadio fully embraces the iPhone, which has become the window to our mobile connectivity and provides a comprehensive and safer way to use apps in the car.”

The power of AppRadio comes from the ability to simply and easily update its software, similar to many of today’s most powerful mobile devices. The front of the unit features a clean and simple aesthetic with only three physical buttons; a home button, a volume up button and a volume down button combined with a high resolution WVGA (800 x 480) 6.1-inch capacitive touchscreen display. This capacitive touch panel requires less pressure, responds faster and can recognize multiple touch points simultaneously, advantages when compared to traditional resistive touchscreen displays. Touchscreen control is used for all functions including the app interface, iPod control/playback, AM/FM radio, and Bluetooth hands-free calling features.

    Pioneer Centric Apps
When connected to an iPhone and iPod touch (4th generation) with the Pioneer AppRadio application and compatible third-party apps, the full potential of the AppRadio is unleashed, bringing an ever-expanding world of convenience and connectivity directly into the dash. The Pioneer AppRadio application, available free in the App Store, enables access to the data and connectivity of the iPhone 4, providing users the ability to access Google Maps and stay current with recommended compatible third-party apps.

Google Maps appears on the AppRadio screen with the same mapping information and features that consumers are familiar with. The system enables users to search2, route to locations, view route directions and create bookmarks with the ability to drop pins directly on the map.

Pioneer has initially partnered with several app providers to integrate AppRadio compatibility into a few of today’s most popular apps, formatted specifically for safe use and access in the vehicle. AppRadio compatible apps are now available including INRIX, MotionX-GPS Drive, Rdio, and Pandora Radio.

With the vehicle parked and the parking brake fully engaged, additional apps featuring second screen video output can be viewed on the AppRadio screen.

    Access to the Future
As the library of AppRadio compatible applications grows, users will be automatically notified via Pioneer’s AppRadio iPhone application, with a link to the respective app(s) page within the App Store. Additionally, the AppRadio software itself is updatable offering the potential for future hardware, software and app compatibility changes.

    Music and Communication
AppRadio continues Pioneer’s strong audio heritage, with a built-in AM/FM tuner with RDS text information display (when available) and full iPod audio control/playback. Pioneer employs Apple’s iPod Out feature enabling the AppRadio system to display the familiar iPod navigation menu, displaying album art, song title and artist. This promotes a safer driving experience, as all of AppRadio’s controls have been designed specifically for in-vehicle operation. This newly developed interface technology supports iPhone 4 and iPod touch (4th generation) running iOS 4.2 or later. In addition, AppRadio enables direct access to the latest iPod functions, such as custom playlists and Genius Mixes, which let users automatically create playlists of music with similarities from their music library.

Safe, in-vehicle phone functionality is simple with built-in Bluetooth, enabling hands-free cellular phone operation using the car’s speakers and the included external microphone to turn the car into a rolling speakerphone. Access to the user’s phonebook is provided via Bluetooth phonebook transfer, with browsing and searching available by touchscreen controls.

The AppRadio includes a 30-pin connector, external GPS antenna, external microphone for hands-free calling and input/output connections to support the addition of an optional rear view camera, wired remote steering wheel control adapter and an external amplifier via one set of preamp outputs.

Pioneer’s AppRadio will be available in late June with a suggested retail price below $500.

The Pioneer AppRadio App is available now from the App Store for the iPhone 4 and iPod touch (4th generation) or at www.apple.com/itunes/.
