Bad business

Well don't wait for Pioneer to revoke the dealer status of 6th Avenue. Pioneer will sell to anyone who can move their product. 6th Avenue has been one of the worst retailers in New York for a loooong time and with at least another 300 million Americans to screw will be around for a long time to come. Suppliers like Pioneer just turn a deaf ear when they get complaints but don't seem to realize that they would sell just as many sets, and maybe even more, if 6th Avenue was NOT a dealer. I had learned my lesson about 6th Avenue some years ago and believe me it's e

I have an Avic N2 with microphone and I cannot seem to get my microphone to be detected(I don't have a voice icon bottom left hand corner). I have checked the wiring and everything and made sure it was plugged into the Mic Input. Could someone please help? Are there certain buttons on the navi remote that must be pressed in order to activate voice command? When I hit VOICE on my cdvcv1.. nothing happens. Thanks
Assuming that it works the same as in my Z1, it w
  5.
I was working on a web site to help walk though knowing which bypass you need. I tried the new bypass on my older unit and it did not work, so older ones seem to need the flasher, newer ones seem to need just the grounded wires. What do you think of this page? http://www.sminntech.com/z1flash.html Any feedback would be nice.

Don't worry if your screen doesn't look EXACTLY like this one. In the picutre above, the right 2 buttons (Route Overview and Cancel Route) are grayed out and the other 8 are av

  7.
In order for the switch to you, do both wires need to be put on the switch? Or just the e-brake or other pin? My installed didn't put a switch in for my D2, but I think I'll add one just in case.
It'll probably never be an issue until AFTER you've been in an accident and in that case the switch will only draw attention to the fact that this thing has been modified.
  8.
You do in fact realize this is all a game with pioneer though. You can count that they are lurking here reading all this and will soon dream up another fix. Sadly, I don't think we will ever checkmate them. hoorey for this victory though. I do appriciate your honesty and would buy from you any day.
Pioneer will have no issue with anyone doing a bypass in this manner. As long as someone has to do something deliberate to the wiring they are in the clear. Flashing the headlights was something that anyone could do without leaving a trace and since it

  10.
I had the n-2 in my car. It got stolen though. My insurance is covering it and im getting the n-3 now. It's getting installed this wednesday. I would like to see if the installer will mount the GPS unit in the dash. Will it effect the siganl to anyones knowledge? Thanks, Mark .
You already had the N2 stolen. Why advertise that you have Navigation in your car. The rooftop antenna does just that.
  11.
my avic n-2 got stolen out of my 01' gti. they got that and my amp and sub. i live in nor cal
Welcome to the Club and sorry that you had to become a member!! Please go to the forum index and scroll down to 'Avic's stolen' and list your serial number there.
  12. Yes, definately a pin number whithout which a stolen Avic can not be re-activated. Also a polarized Screen-coating to minimize glare and reflection. A must: MP3 capability. A small volume knob at the bottom left for quick access without taking the eyes off the road rather than the two up and down keys.
  13. When you don't have it hooked up, the navi assumes you're moving forward when in fact you're moving in reverse. As the avic constantly learns and corrects discrepeancies in your car between it's speed, gyro and incline/decline sensors and the actual position, as determined by GPS readings, the accuracy deminishes slightly depending on just how much you move in reverse. If you move 40' in reverse and turn at the same time while the speed sensor tells the Avic you've moved 40' forward while turning you've effectly introduced an 80' error which is multiplied by the turning info. Typically you'll
  14. Obviously in a convertible you would need a special mike that is close to your throat and doesn't pick up other noice. It's the same as using a phone in a noisy vehicle, you need a noise cancelling mic.
  15. The address search as well as the POI searches work amazingly well for me and so does the switching between AV sources such as AM, FM, DVD, Favorites and more, with the voice command, which is why I hadn't bothered to get a 'Ducati' as of yet. The person I was replying to originally was writing as if the Z1 has become useless without the bypass and that is far from fact. But more importantly, now that the bypass has been killed for the time being it would be useful to list exactly what can be done without the bypass and while under way and what can not be done. I've found tha
  16.

Huh?? Wait till you get a Z1 installed and you'll see that most of the navigation features work without a bypass, including voice commands for picking destinations. I don't have my phone tied in with the Z1 but can guarantee you that it'll work just fine too.
You can't do an address search or a POI search without stopping and putting the parking brake on. You also can't dial a number from your address book without stopping and putting the parking brake on. And I think the voice commands are locked out as well for those
  17.

To be honest, I think they changed it because of me. These companies know about these types of forums.
With all due respect sir, i dont think this is true. I think that there probably was an internal dialogue as far as the legal liability of someone crashing because they bypassed the moving lockouts and they decided they just didnt want to have to face that liability..
It's not about truth, it's about not knowing for sure what made them change it and voicing opinions. And since the 'Ducati' was offered as an add-on by
  18.
Three problems here. 1. The microphone does not work. I've verified that it is plugged into the right jack on the back of the unit and is snug. ..........
If you see the voice command icon on the screen then the plug from the mic makes the required contact but that doesn't guarantee that the mic works. 19. Pioneer would not change the easy bypass just for the hell of it. There are liability issues and since just about every unit got bypassed it was like they never put in the safety lock-out in the first place. In the US this means that the Lawyers are ligning up to hold Pioneer liable when there is any kind of an accident involving a bypassed Z1. Pioneer making it easy for Customers to watch movies while driving is not a case that can be won in court! Look for the fixed bypass to be some place other than in the part of the software that is updated from time to time (after all the sof
I can understand not allowing the unit to play a DVD while the car is in motion but why would they disable the phone and navigation features since they are most valuable while moving? Are they going to disable being able to change radio stations next since that too takes your eyes off the road.
Huh?? Wait till you get a Z1 installed and you'll see that most of the navigation features work without a bypass, including voice commands for picking destinations.
