  1. How/Why are you upgrading Bluetooth separately? I assumed that following Pioneer's instructions would update the firmware and Bluetooth at the same time (or, perhaps to be more precise, sequentially). Updating my 8000 to 1.10 via an SD card went smoothly, but now I'm concerned I've missed out on a Bluetooth update.
  2. Make that 100% for never having wireless CarPlay, as Pioneer recently provided this information to CNET: "When asked, Pioneer stated that the current crop of NEX models will not be supporting the new wireless CarPlay functionality debuted in iOS version 8.3, due to their lack of the necessary Wi-Fi hardware." http://www.cnet.com/products/pioneer-avic-8100nex-navigation-system-display-7-in-in-dash-unit-double-din/?tag=nl.e751&s_cid=e751&ttag=e751&ftag=CADc8fa1f1
  3. Ah, what is old is new again . . . From August 2009 on this very site-- http://avic411.com/index.php?/topic/23367-anyway-to-get-rid-of-the-caution-screen-ok-on-bootup/
  4. True, and I've done that, but then the maps in Carplay are set to nuclear levels of brightness. Tough to find a balance.
  5. Yes, you can install Chrome on an iPhone. It's in the App Store at https://appsto.re/us/NVp8F.i
  6. These new units were announced today, and they won't be available for at least two more months (http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PUSA/Press-Room/Car-Audio-Video/Pioneer's+Second+Generation+NEX+Receivers+Expand+smartphone+Connectivity). Also, has Google even officially released Android Auto into the wild? Given all of that, isn't it perhaps a bit too soon to presume that Pioneer will not provide a firmware update to enable Android Auto for the now-old 8000, 7000, and 4000 NEX units? Admittedly, Pioneer's history on supporting older units hasn't been great. Plus, other than what might be a
  7. A big compromise I made when I started using CarPlay was giving up Overcast in favor of Apple's podcast app, just so I could have a podcast app with built-in CarPlay integration. I'm not surprised Marco could pull this off so quickly, but I'm shocked that Apple has already opened up CarPlay to independent developers like him. This is huge. Plus, Overcast is great.
  8. As a test, have you tried plugging in someone else's iPhone to your unit to see if the problem persists? Conversely, have you plugged your phone into someone else's CarPlay-compatible unit to see if you get the same result? Performing such tests would go a long way to determining where the problem is.
  9. Pioneer's Appradio 4 does not have native GPS navigation; the only navigation possible is through the connected phone. Nevertheless, it includes an external GPS antenna for the following reason: "included external GPS antenna for boosting signal while using GPS apps" (http://www.crutchfield.com/p_130SPDA120/Pioneer-SPH-DA120-AppRadio-4.html) For what other reason would Pioneer include a GPS antenna for a unit where navigation is possible only through a connected phone? (http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/StaticFiles/Manuals/Car/SPH-DA120_InstallationManual070714.pdf) And it's not lik
  10. I've been using it for the last couple of days, and it has worked surprisingly well. Looks like we can thank this guy at Rdio for such great work--https://twitter.com/longsview/status/523136667507773441
  11. Rdio hadn't been listed as a potential CarPlay app on Apple's site, so the update with CarPlay support was quite unexpected.
  12. As a Rdio user, this app update was a welcome, albeit unexpected, surprise. Rdio has worked well for me so far, but I have only tried it for a total of ten minutes. And, yes, the only way it shows up on the head unit is if you have the updated Rdio app on your phone.
  13. Rdio just updated its app, and it now is CarPlay compatible. http://9to5mac.com/2014/10/16/rdio-announces-carplay-support-320-kbps-audio-iphone-66-plus-optimizations/ Not listed on Apple's CarPlay page yet. Guess Apple had other things to do today.
  14. Thank you both for that information. The videos I've seen have all been with the resistive screen units, so I wasn't sure if the 8000 and its capacitive screen would allow pinch-to-zoom. And now that CarPlay is live, I'm about ready to go all-in and get the 8000. Have you been happy with the responsiveness of the unit?
  15. For those with the 8000 who have updated to CarPlay, are you able to pinch-to-zoom with Apple Maps? If so, how smooth is it? More generally, how responsive and smooth is it when scrolling through the various CarPlay screens?
