Actually since appradio unchained works in rooted android phones it doesn't seem unlikely that you could port the drivers to a Linux system or even windows if some one was smart enough. I say someone because I'm not, nor do I know any one who is... But out there somewhere there are hundreds of people smart enough to do this. If android can do it im confident someone could get it working on linux and possibly win 8.1 or 9

You could get a 7500rpm 750gb hdd for pretty cheap

I think the micro sdxc 128gb from sandisk would do nicely in a 4 port sdxc to USB hub to get you 512mb but it seems like a 2.5inch hdd formatted correctly would work just as well in a powered or power over USB enclosure.
