Just updated my device (pretty smooth updating procedure in less than 10 minutes) and after half an hour of playing around with it I must admit: I am not entirely convinced of that CarPlay thing. I would not call it bad or something, but the benefits (for me) are fairly limited: 1) I personally see no advantage in the Car Play music player and prefer the built in from Pioneer. After I upgraded my device to the Firmware 1.04 released last week the audio issues seem to be gone. I used my device for a couple of hours and no complains on Audio quality anymore. Pioneer seems to have fixed it without any notice but hey, I'm happy that this annoying issue seems to be gone.anyhow, I can recommend the firmware upgrade,takes just a couple of minutes and is worth being installed just for fixing this bug.

I own the AVIC-F860 (which seems to be 1:1 the European version of the nex5000) and suffer exactly the same issue - when plugging the iPhone (iPhone 5, OS7) to USB1 or USB2 the music starts to sound clipping/distorted somehow after a couple of minutes, exactly like described here. My workaround: switch the source to (e.g. radio) and back to iPhone again and then everything works perfectly until the HU is switched off. Seems to be a bug on Pioneers' side. BTW: My wife is reporting the same issue for her Android phone.
