  1. It sounds like you could cut the interface wire between the Onstar and the Z3. You would then have to power the Z3 with an "acc" power, meaning that it shuts off when you turn the car off. The onstar would no longer mute the Z3 (you would have to manually turn down the volume or just turn it off...However you wouldn't have to worry about the boot time). You may also have to look into how it connects to the speakers...You may need to add a couple diodes.... That should take care of it, but w/o looking at it, I can't be 100% sure.

jwq's links had those dates from the 800HD series. It was however an European version. Just curious why it wouldn't be updated to at least 2008....I guess it is.
  5. good news, Yes!! The Z1, Z2, and Z3 are all basically the same (w/ map updates). The Z1 you may have to add the firmware update or BT update to fully use the bypass, but both should work w/ the two wire bypass.
  6. The full instructions are found at http://www.sminntech.com/z1flash.html, which say "If you are still getting the pop up message, the only way to get rid of it is to press the recessed button to the right of the eject button (the button the opens the face of the Avic-Z1). This will lose your AM/FM radio presets but not much else." This should clear up other function as well. Once I had everything working right and reset the unit, it has been nothing but smooth sailing. This page also gives some good pics on which pin to ground (in addition to the parking brake wire). It talks about the
  7. He may be late, but you are the only one who lost out on $100.... Probably b/c you were too impatient to wait for a sale. Best Buy always has the best sales. I have definitely saved thousands from them. Sorry you missed out! Good luck w/ Circuit City.
  8. Once successfully bypassed, it is pretty sweet. Phone, Map, DVD, settings, etc are all accessible. Most people have a problem w/ moving the 2nd wire not pushed in far enough. Hope you get it working, it definitely makes it a usable system.
  9. 1st, have you verified that the BT phone is connected? 2nd, you may still need to reset your avic unit. After you successfully complete the two wire bypass, you need to do a reset (not sure which one, but if you search for the bypass, it should be in that thread). This clears out one of the annoying messages and allows you to perform more of these functions.
  10. I have run into similar problems. I sometimes have to hit the eject button many time to get it to open or close. Sometimes it opens most of the way (it looks open, but isn't) and have to hit the eject button for it to go all the way open. The cd won't go in or eject unless it is at the full open position. Haven't found a solution yet and maybe it needs to go back to Pioneer for a little work?
  11. It has nothing to do w/ TeleAtlas. There are other map search engines out there that use TeleAtlas and are up to date. The problem is that Pioneer takes too long to put out updates...By the time you get them they are years old.
