Has anyone figured out how to update the maps to at least match what's on your Head Unit?

 

Hey guys. I am trying to get my AVH-4200 into testmode.  I have generated the file using the perl script from github like so:

 

perl encode.pl 007SERVICE003ALL00833333333007SERVICE0082013010100820201230000 TESTMODE_A.KEY

 

I then placed it in root of USB drive and plugged into unit and turned it on. It still doesn't boot into testmode.  I also tried renaming it to TESTMODE.KEY and also again by making it all lower case on both names.  I have also tried both USB ports.  Nothing.

 

Am I missing something or is the procedure or string different for the 4200. Ive also tried a few different testmode.key files i googled and found here but still not working.  Any help would be appreciated.

 

The 4200 hasn't been patched yet, only the x000 with FW 1.07, 1.08 and 1.11 and the x100 with FW 1.05

Anyone see this problem with NavFusion Accessory when plug the phone to USB on HU, I have note 5 and it work with mirrorlink using Car app from HTC and Glympse for Auto work just fine before the firmware update to 1.11 on my 7000 NEX

This issue occurs if you have the AVICSYNC (connected features) turned on in Navigation Mode and don't have something that the USB Accessory (the head unit) can recognize as a launchable app. You can resolve it by redownloading AVICSYNC or whichever app launched from start when connected to your head unit.

Also, if you would rather use Android Auto or CarPlay, what you will need to do is go into Navigation Mode ("MAP" button) and in that bottom bar where it shows the audio source playing, move to the car icon (which should have a green/glowing set of arrows, not unlike the AVICSYNC logo) and click it so it will turn off. You may get an on-screen message that the "connected features will be disabled" or something. Then you'll be back in AA/CarPlay mode.

You guys have to read, that means the entire thread.....I never knew how to do this other than simple copy/paste...I had to read all the info..all the mistakes and tidbits and pitfalls people went through. Most people wont hand feed when the info is in the thread...I had to read and now I have to find the info for YOU...cmon...STOP BEING LAZY.

 

Everytime I check this thread someone wants a handout...read...then read it again..read other threads so you get the info..slang....lingo...technical terms people are using.

Follow the instructs, that will patch the nav software open to accept the changes.

 

NEVER ENTER COPY DEVICE MODE, YOU WILL BRICK YOUR DEVICE!

 

Instruction to install patch 

• Download file corresponding to your navigation version. You can check your version in About/Version information in maps application.
• Unpack/unrar downloaded file into FAT32-formatted USB stick, insert stick into USB1 (USB2 isn't working). POWER unit
• Your device will reboot into testmode.
• Select Write program forcedly => Copy Script, script will patch your system( IT wont say you correctly applied ANYTHING...it will simply reboot. 
• Remove USB stick after script finishes.

 

All that file does is get you into testmode, the script is a diff operation...you enable the script

Loading Map files:

 

I took the same USB with the same files on it and added the new map files in the matching folders....( YES you create the folders and sub folders)...that the files will go into

on the unit( so I can remember where they go).

I also created a folder called Backup on the usb

 

So once again-

 

• insert stick into USB1 (USB2 isn't working).
• Your device will reboot into testmode.
• NOTICE.....your not applying any script or patch
• Using the built in file manager-> Linux Root-->extdata-->iGO...I copied the license and contents folders  off my unit and pasted into my Backup folder on the usb.(patience this can take some time)
• You likely( I cant rem) wont get some pretty notice that everything copied.....make sure..dig around and check it out
• Once your sure they are backed up...go back into the license and contents folders on the unit and into the sub folders and delete the files your going to replace..FILES...NOT SUB FOLDERS
• Now you go to those exactly named folders and sub folders on the usb and copy/move the contents onto the unit in the coresponding correct folders and sub folders.
• Patience...wait for it to fin...might take 5 mins..maybe 20 mins

 

Now if this is all to much for you...dont try it.

 

NEX 8000

I just want to confirm that this method worked for me.

I am using an 8100NEX and I successfully managed to update my maps, 3D buildings, and POI to the latest HERE versions (2015 Q3)

A later reply (I believe it is #378) also broke down which replies in the thread are most needed.

Here is a recap based on my experience:

1. Download and extract the necessary flash/update script for your AVIC head unit (reply #138), and copy all necessary files to a USB flash drive (recommended 16GB or more, so that you can backup everything). Boot your head unit with the updated USB flash drive in USB1. Select USB1 as your source and the system will reboot. As described above, from the menu that appears, you should select "Write Program Forcedly" and COPY SCRIPT. (do not use COPY DEVICE for any reason). This step is necessary to patch your maps so that they will accept any license.

2. Acquire the necessary update files from GPSPower (#207). Suggested that once you have all the Map, 3D, and POI files, that you organize them accordingly in folders on your USB drive.

For example, on my flash drive, there is a folder called "updates". In that folder there are two folders: content and license.

The "license" folder has the necessary ".lyc" files to use with the new maps.

In the "content" folder there are three folders:  "map", "poi", and "building", in which I placed appropriate map, building, and POI files from the new map set.

3 (optional). Using the file manager feature of the "Test Mode" that launches with your newly-formatted USB flash drive, I copied the "content" and "license" folders from Linux Root\extdata\iGO to a folder on my USB drive called "backup". I then made sure to check the content that was on the flash drive before doing anything further. If you feel you are missing files, go into the folder, use the "All" function, "copy", and paste them by navigating back to your desired directory in File Manager, and using the "paste" function just to make sure.

4. Using the File Manager, I went into the folders I needed to update map files (iGO/content/MAP, iGO/content/building, iGO/content/POI) and deleted all files. I did not delete license files, only copied and pasted the new ones I had acquired for the new maps into the iGO/license folder.

5. Using the File Manager, I copied the updates/content/MAP, updates/content/building, and updates/content/POI using the "All" > "Copy" functions, folder by folder (I did MAP last as it had the most/largest files) to the corresponding folders on extdata/iGO on Linux Root.

6. I turned off the car/unit, restarted the system and verified by going into the MAP function of the head unit that the new maps were copied and everything was working.

Good thing that I saw this -- updating AVIC maps are not nearly as easy as updating Garmin systems on a Kenwood but I'm glad that this was even possible.

Not sure if this helps you can do a map search of an area in the pic to get a comparison. The new maps seem more accurate than previous, but I'm not 100% if they are actually better. I just updated them so I will share once I get to see more lanmarks and stuff. One thing I recall is that it did update alot of 3d landmarks in the update. If you don't travel out of state much I would pay for just the update for your region. $129.99 is a bit steep

Regarding CarPlay: All you should need is a Lightning Cable and a compatible iPhone.

You have to go into Smartphone Settings (touch the "Gear" icon from the main menu to find it).
Select USB1 and CarPlay as your connection type.

Then simply connect your iPhone to USB1 (it has to be USB1) and enjoy  CarPlay.

As for AppRadio, as others have mentioned, you will need to have the Lightning/AV cable and use HDMI. CarPlay is a much superior option if you are an iPhone user.

I updated it, and I've seen some strange behavior with regards to Android Auto. Android Auto itself runs as expected (though I'm not too fond of some of the app updates). However if I play music through Android Auto (for example, through Google Play Music), and then go back to the main menu to select another USB source (for example, an iPod), USB1 will remain at "Ready" until I unplug the phone from USB2, and then it will start playing. I can then get back into Android Auto by replugging the phone into USB2.

I don't think that's good. I wonder if I can go back to 1.03.

 

Confirmed that sideloading HTC Car + Automate is a way to get an Android Auto-like interface to your car on a 4000/8000NEX. It works on my 8100NEX.

 

However, this doesn't output any audio. Is there a specific version of HTC Car I should be using?

 

Note: WAZE also works through HTC Car if you use it there.

 

Which phone do you have?

Samsung Galaxy S5 (SM-G900V, Verizon Wireless).

I have the issue, occasionally.

This makes no sense. I occasionally have the same issue on my 8100NEX. Sometimes unplugging and restarting the iPod helps. I refuse to believe this to be an issue with the 30pin adapter for iPod; tons of OEM and aftermarket iPod-ready head units that input via USB do not have these issues, some of which actually made by Pioneer.

The Note 4 is compatible with APPRADIO. If you are considering the 2015 NEX models 4100, 7100, and 8100, you will also have access to Android Auto.
All you need for APPRADIO is MHL support. Which means the Galaxy S6 may not be a good choice. I think the G4 is also compatible.

Thanks for the replies...tried a number of cables and given that another phone works using the exact same cables I am 'assuming' that it's the combination of the Moto X 2nd Gen and Verizon.  Hopefully someone else on Verizon has the same phone and can post.  I also tried a friend's Samsung Galaxy S5 on Verizon and it did NOT work (running Lollipop 5.0 flat).  Verizon, as usual, seems to have done something with their custom ROM that prevents phones from working with Android Auto.

The Verizon S5 issue has been corrected recently. I have been using AA since around May 31 with no issues.

I contacted amazon, Crawford, and pioneer. I may have gotten the issue resolved... I'll let you all know in a few days

Please let us know how this goes. 

They recommended sending it in for service. But with a 3 week turnaround time, plus no guarantee that warranty would be honored, I'm half wondering if I should just seek a replacement from Amazon.

Thanks for this. I did pull the 8100NEX and run the hair dryer in the affected areas. I got the "Eject" button back, but the other buttons are doing as described above.
As the steering wheel controls work and there is a way to get to "HOME", not to mention the touch screen is still completely functional I will likely see what Pioneer says about a factory repair before going forward.
 

As you know, those switches are directly below the bottom of the screen,and in the direction gravity travels. This is one of the reasons I opted for the 4100 (removable screen for cleaning).

 

The switches feel like the membrane type, and I'm guessing you got some water under the membrane which is shorting out some of the traces. It may evaporate and return to normal. Although if it sits in there a while it might corrode the exposed traces making for unreliable operation.

 

You might try a hair dryer on low around the bottom of the screen, but you may have to pull it apart and clean things up.

 

Did the water have any additives (soap, etc.)? That would make matters worse.

A trace amount per the instructions. There were several hours between the time I applied the screen and the next time I powered things up. I might have to try taking things apart.

I'm also going to call Pioneer when they're next open for any advice on this. It was weird that there were absolutely no adverse effects the first time I tried this.

Did you use water to apply the protector?

Yes, though this was done with a small amount and away from the dash so as not to invite excess moisture. When I did this the first time, there were no issues.

Everything still works, except for the buttons on front. Thankfully I also have working steering wheel controls for the track and volume.

If any moisture were invited to the install, does this ever revert to normal?

Ever since I installed a screen protector/anti-glare sheet for the 8100NEX (I botched it the first time, removed it, and did it again properly), the front buttons on the 8100NEX have not worked properly. When I first powered my car on, it was as if it had a hard reset (I had to reset language and smartphone options).

But now, the front buttons do the following:

VOL - works as intended.

VOL + acts as the MAP button does
MAP acts as the HOME button does

HOME acts as if the EJECT button does

TRACK - acts as if the EJECT button does

TRACK + does nothing

EJECT does nothing.

I have reset the unit using the pin push technique, I have removed the wire harness from the head unit and let it sit for several minutes before reconnecting.

I hope that I don't need to get this repaired or replaced. I bought this from Amazon and I've heard/read that Pioneer does not honor warranties when purchased thereabouts. 

If you have a 7100NEX and a Note 4 with Lollipop OS, I would not bother with any other smartphone integration besides Android Auto (unless you absolutely need to use Waze).

To set this up, take the following steps before connecting anything in your car:

Go to the Google Play Store and download the Android Auto app.

You may also want to download/upgrade the Google app, Google Maps, and Google Play Music as well. Android Auto uses these for their interface.

On your phone, make sure you have the latest security policy update, by going to Settings > Security > Security Policy Updates. This will ensure that Google microphone controls will work.

Now, head to your 7100NEX.

Before connecting anything, go to Settings (gear icon) and then to Input/Output Settings > Smartphone Setup.

Choose Others, then USB2.

Now, make sure you are parked with brake on, or bypassed.

Connect your phone to USB2 using a MicroUSB high-speed cable. It does not need to be Samsung OEM, but it needs to be USB 2.0 compliant for data/charging or higher.

If all goes well, either Android Auto will auto-launch, or you can launch it from the home screen.

Follow the prompts on your phone and enjoy.

MirrorLink should possibly work, if there is a compatible app. Not sure if the old DriveLink app works, as it was developed for the Galaxy SIII generation of phones.

You have to touch the white spheres as they appear on the touch screen of the head unit.

I believe the Ground + "SET ON" bypass does allow nav entry while in motion.

Also, for the S5 on a 2014 NEX model, I suggest using the Samsung HDTV adapter, an HDMI cable, and AppRadio.

MirrorLink technically works, but there is as of yet, no DriveLink-type software to bring it all together.

Thanks for sharing!  I'm glad to see the custom Skin worked well for you.  This is the perfect application for it.  We noticed a couple people ordered the same size custom screen protector for the same device so we decided to make it easy and add this to our catalog as a standard product.  

 

I'll avoid being spammy and posting a link but you can find it in the Other>Car Electronics category or a quick search for Pioneer will bring it right up.  It's just available in matte for now so if anyone wants it in glossy just let us know.

Sorry for cross posting, but this thread seems to be getting a lot of replies. So I am hoping to get some help here.

 

I installed avic-8100-nex in my 07 ford expedition xlt using the  Metra XSVI-5520-NAV harness. I used a CCAUSB 2.0 (http://goo.gl/lu7FGQ)  pass through cable connected to port 2.   

 

I *do not* have any brake bypass, hardware or software, I have the parking wire connected to the light green wire on the metra harness. I upgraded firmware from 1.01 to 1.03. I have a nexus 5 that recently got the 5.1.1 OTA, I connected the nexus5 using the LG USB cable that came with the phone.

 

The HU recognized the phone, initiated the download of Android Auto and showed me the "accept" screen on the phone and then disconnected. I depressed the parking brake, head the break pedal down, unlocked the phone, and reconnected the phone. Android auto icon appears on the head unit, I when click on the icon or mode button I see the following message: "Android Auto cannot connect right now. When it is safe to do so, please check your Android phone."

 

I have tried couple of different USB cables, even connected the cable directly without a pass through. I also  uninstalled the android auto app several times and reconnected, and each time I get the same behavior. I have also tried connecting the parking brake wire to the electrical ground on the harness. One thing I have not tried is a different phone. 

 

Should I ground the parking brake to the vehicle chassis? Do you folks have better results getting Android Auto working that way?

Should I try a different USB cable? What cable do you recommend? 

Should I factory reset the phone? Or Head unit ? 

Any other suggestions ? 

I don't think a factory reset of the phone is necessary. I don't know what the heck happened with my set up, but all of a sudden the "parking" situation resolved itself and I was able to start the set up. Someone kicked around the idea on another forum that Android Auto doesn't even tap in to the head unit to figure out whether the car is parked. Which makes me wonder what is the trigger to keep it from locking you out of the app and connecting the phone. They need to scrap that ASAP.... all it does is cause problems.

Do Apple users have to deal with this with CarPlay?!
