  1. That's funny. That's the exact phone I have. Now that I think about it, I don't having this issue with the Samsung Note 7 I had last year (before they made me return it). And the Note 3 I had before that didn't have the issue either. Maybe there is an issue with Android Auto on that particular phone? A few times I've shoved the phone in one of the vents to cool it off.
  2. Hi all. I've had my 8100 NEX for just about 2 years now, loaded in my 2015 Subaru Forester. Overall, I like it a lot. I used to have issues with playing large amounts of mp3s, but ever since I was able to get a 256GB SSD onto my phone, I can control everything with Android Auto and I'm pretty happy. Anyway, onto my question. I live in St Louis. It gets pretty warm here in the summer (90s and up usually). Plus, the dashboard is black. I try to use a winshield shade when I park, but it's still really warm when I get in the car (sometimes near 100 degrees). Being cooped up in the office all d
  3. So I've had my 8100 for about 7-8 months now. I have an SSD ( on USB1) with about 22k mp3s on it. I know the practical limit is 15k, but I don't feel like splitting it up and just deal with the side effects. Anyway, besides the slow loading whenever I'd switch to USB1, I would randomly fight issues where the 8100 wouldn't even boot properly with it connected. I eventually got into the habit of just disconnecting the SSD before I turned my car on and only plug it in when I knew I would be driving a long distance. Anyway, it all of the sudden stopped having issues a bit back. I assumed it wa
  4. It's a 250GB SSD w/ about 22,000 files on it. I know it's over the limit, but it was working fine for about a month before this all started. So without the drive plugged in, the unit's been absolutley rock solid. On a whim, I tried plugging it in (before boot) and instantly... same problem. So I unplugged it and and restarted the car and it was fine. I seem to be able to get around it by plugging the drive in after it's booted (it's sitting in my glove box, so it's not too inconvenient). After about a 2 minute load, I can access all the files just like before. This file/folder limi
  5. OK - that made absolutely no difference whatsoever. I tried over several days and actually it seemed like the problem was getting worse, like it was happening everytime. At one point for about a 1/2 day, I couldn't even get the radio to load at all. On a hunch, I unplugged the SSD hanging off USB1 and it's been fine (for 2 car trips at least). Bootup is very fast and requires no jiggery of the starting sequence. I'm going to try this out for a couple days to see if it changes things. I'll then try to plug the SSD back in to see if I start having problems again.
  6. interesting... I'll try that... that actually kind of makes sense because it usually always happens when I'm in a hurry
  7. I went out today at lunch and it did it again. Luckily the music volume was low, so I just let it go as I was driving around to see what would happen. Eventually the display would go dark, but the button lights were still going. The buttons didn't do anything, though. For grins, I plugged in my phone and it didn't register it as being plugged in (usually at least notes that it's charging). That lasted for about 7-8 minutes. When I got to my destination, I shut off the car and turned it back to accessory. The HU rebooted and was dark for about 30-40 seconds (along with the button lights), and t
  8. Nope - it's a manual transmission with an "old fashioned" key
  9. Hi, I tried to search through the forum for something similar, but I haven't found anything. I've had my 8100 for about 6 weeks now, having put it in my 2015 Subaru Forester. I installed it myself, soldering all of the wiring ends. I grounded out the parking brake wire and did the software bypass. Overall, the unit works really well. However, every now and again (probably about once every 2-3 weeks or so), I'll turn on the car after not having driven it for a bit (say, in the morning), and the boot splash will come up and then it just gets stuck on the "loading" screen. If I have music pla
  10. I currently have about 23,000 files hanging off of a 256GB SSD on my 8100NEX. It works. However, the queue up time when you switch to USB1 takes about 45-90 seconds before you can play music. the same thing goes for when you first turn it on. Luckily, that time barely even gets me off my street, so I've learned to deal with it. It's not a perfect solution, but it does work. I formatted to fat32 because my tests showed that it loaded a bit faster than NTFS. I also manually sorted the files using the fatsort linux utility (I think such utilities exist for Windows and others) so I can browse musi
  11. Hi - I have a newly installed 8100NEX with an SSD drive with a bunch of music attached to it. I use that as my jukebox. It's formatted in fat32 and I've used the fatsort utility to sort all of the files/directories in alphabetical order. I've noticed that whenever I get a call (or inadvertently change sources - like to the radio) and go back, that it seems to hang and not play anything for about 2-3 minutes, almost the same behavior that it does whenever I start up the unit. Is that normal behavior? I'm trying to optimize playback as best I can, and this is the only little nag I have left. I c
  12. Hi - thanks for the reply. Most of the files already have the track number at the beginning - it appears to be alphabetizing it based on the title tag. You did give me an idea, though - maybe instead of browsing via tag, I'll browse via folder. I'll give that a shot the next time I'm in the car. Thanks!
  13. Hi - I recently installed an AVIC-8100NEX in my new Subaru Forester. I love it. It's awesome. I'd been using my iPod as a media source for a bit but wanted to change over to an external hard drive (actually an SSD mounted in an enclosure) so I could use my iPod for something else. I got everything loaded up and it scanned all the files and everything works great.... except for one thing. I'm a big "album" listener and I'm finding that the UI automatically sorts all of the tracks in an album (when I drill down by artist->album) alphabetically. I cannot seem to figure out how to make it play
