I just updated my European unit today from 1.08 to 1.11 and it worked without any problems. Did you try to connect a completely different iPhone? Did you try to clean the lightning plug in the bottom of your phone? If not, try to use a plastic toothpick and scape the hole inside. Usually a lot of dust/dirt can hide in that hole making it difficult to connect properly.

Updating from 1.08 to 1.11 on my European unit worked like a charm using a 4 GB memorystick! Bluetooth version is still 3.21.30 - also tried a manual update of BT firmware but still same version. I now experience a slightly faster dashboard when changing menus. I don't see any new features so I guess it's all about bug fixes. The upcoming iOS 9.3 for iPhone promises better CarPlay functionality also so maybe it's not such a bad idea to update the firmware in the radio unit.
