I finally had the opportunity to try this workaround.  Since the pandemic, I have done very little driving.  Last week I went on a 12-hour road trip and decided that would be a good time to try the Maestro bypass (and re-flashed it while I was at it).  This clearly fixed the head unit reboot problem, but I did see one brief message that the Maestro unit had disconnected and one time where the steering wheel controls did not work for a short time.  It is clear to me that the problem is with the Maestro unit and not the head unit.  It isn't clear whether this is a problem inherent to all Maestro units or I just have a lemon (in which case I am clearly not alone).  It may well be too late to exchange the unit, but I'm going to give it a try.

Agreed, mine hasn’t rebooted since I did the bypass.

The problem is very similar to Alpine problem, especially “that certain areas can do it”.  Maybe turn LTE off before the drive and ON after?  Alternately, maybe try another carrier’s SIM (a friends/wifes/etc) to see if they have the same problems in the same spots (it should not which suggests cell-tower triangulation).  Thats probably more extreme and turning LTE.  Its unfortunate that Shortcuts can only turn off CELL and NOT specific LTE.  But if you music was local, and you used google with Local Maps, that might be an idea (have an automation turn cellular off?). (never tried that though)

I disabled hey Siri and LTE for my 25 min commute this morning and had ZERO audio cut outs. An unacceptable workaround but great info none the less! I’ll keep LTE disabled for now and see If the trend continues. I was also streaming music that wasn’t downloaded (Spotify).

As you probably recall, I have it. I don't have it as much as you guys though. I got it twice with "hey Siri" off, so that is officially NOT the problem. Did you try LTE off?  I did it for 2 days with no drops but I just can't handle 3G anymore so turned LTE back on. I can't confirm if it helps or not.

I never tried the LTE, I’d rather have faster data but would be interesting if this fixed it. I had no cut outs today but tomorrow it’ll probably have beeps! So unpredictable, some days in the same place with my phone in the same spot it doesn’t cut out. Other days it does.

  4. I created this thread dedicated to our wireless CarPlay issues with the new Pioneer receivers.

Who is having issues and is there anything you’ve done to fix it?

Have you called pioneer on the issue and what was their response?

How has Apple allowed this to happen, they have such a tight grasp on their products and other manufacturers who integrate with their ecosystem?

I suspect you are right. That is typically Pioneer’s approach to these things after a few months on the market. Im hoping if enough of us complain this early on, they will have to fix the problem... IF it can be fixed with a software/firmware update.

I just tried Hey Siri while connected wirelessly. I had no drops. Everything worked properly.

Is anyone having the dropping problem on a WT7600NEX?  I’ve only heard of it on the 8600, so far.

Yes mine drops on the WT7600NEX, although for no apparent reason it has gotten a little better. If I even wave my hand over my phone it drops, or heaven forbid I pickup my phone it drops too.

I’ll call them when I get home tonight and press the issue!

Hey Markdizle.  Yup, its day 3 and no drops.  Although I dont want to keep it this way, I figure (if its truly proven) we could maybe email Pioneer to fix it?  I checked, I have networking & wireless on ... but might try it (and dropping LTE) if this doesn't work, but so far 3 days is pretty good.

I called Pioneer about the crappy Siri quality and they immediately blamed my phone, I didn’t push it hard and just hung up. Got some low level tech on the phone just reading from a script.

I’ll give them a call this weekend and push the issue further as it’s not getting any better!

  7. One more thing, I found some where on the inter webs that someone had success with wireless CarPlay interference by turning this off. I did it and it’s seemed to help but could be placebo.

The only thing that I can tell it turns off is direction airdrop, can no longer point your phone at another to send an airdrop. Didn’t work well for me anyways so I’m not missing much.

Do you happen to have "Hey Siri" turned on?

    Hey it’s Ivan from Reddit!

I’m out of town and can’t test it but I will when I get back on Friday. Although I do use hey Siri quite often with my AirPods, would suck to turn that off.

Your wireless CarPlay has been better still?

I was in a Cayenne today that had CarPlay built in and thought of you lol

Hi. After many hours of screen presses, I figured it out. The Pioneer DMH-W and DMH-WT models have a special hidden menu bypass requirement. No interface bypass is required, but you can leave it connected if it is already installed. Dean and Fernando at Five Star Audio made a video of it on the tubes if you’d rather see it than read it. Here is how to do it:
    1. Update the firmware to 1.13
    2. Enable the hidden menu bypass by sourcing the radio off (source off, not power off).
    3. Press and hold the bottom left corner of the screen for exactly 10 seconds (use a stopwatch as timing is critical).
    4. Within 1 second, press and hold the bottom right corner (to the immediate left of bluetooth icon) for 10-12 seconds until a small “set on” icon will appear (in the bottom middle of the screen) confirming the bypass has been activated.
    5. If you do not get it the first time, cycle the ignition off and back on and start over.
    6. If you need to reverse this process, reset the radio.

    Worked for me thank you!!

I’ll just go ahead and throw out that I’ve had zero problems with wireless CarPlay dropping out or range issues.

My only problem with CarPlay is the robotic, poor-quality Siri and phone call voices.

Something sounds like it isn’t working correctly for the connection to drop that easily. I’d probably request a replacement.

Are you both using the 8600?  I’m using a 7600.

I have the 7600 as well

I installed the 8600 this past Wednesday and I immediately updated to 1.13 soon after. However, I’ve been experiencing the random audio cut outs when using CarPlay. In attempts to figure this issue out I was able to reproduce this issue. The problem appears to be a weak WiFi signal between the unit and the iPhone when using CarPlay wirelessly. If I keep my Iphone within a 2-3 foot radius from the 8600...no cut outs. As I gradually moved my iPhone further away from the 8600 while in the car, the audio began cutting out. As I made it to my rear cargo area within my SUV, it completely lost connection from CarPlay. When I gradually moved the iPhone  back towards the 8600 it would auto reconnect to CarPlay. If I place my iPhone out the the driver side window, it loses connection with the audio stuttering until connection is lost.

The previous $400 Kenwood unit would auto connect wirelessly to CarPlay if my iPhone was anywhere within my garage while my vehicle was parked in the garage, so this comes as a surprise that the connection range is so short for a high end unit such as the 8600. Hopefully this can be fixed via a future firmware update.

Agreed, wireless CarPlay is garbage! Using WiFi it should work anywhere in the vehicle, period. Bluetooth worked flawlessly with my stock 2015 head unit with my phone in a backpack in the truck. Wireless CarPlay cuts out with my phone in a cupholder 1 foot from the pioneer!

Once you download it from the app you have to go to the car the emergency brake has to be on and then go to settings then firmware update. Mine did it with no problem

Ahhh I tried it before they had instructions out that mention the parking brake. Thanks, I’ll try it via USB tonight and report back.

Regarding the flicker.... I am also experiencing this..  I guess since others are experiencing it it means that my frustrations are shared.  I initially thought it was a loose connection but it happens even if I am sitting still. I have tried to wiggle the screen cord and reconnect it without any change. It also is happening intermittently. Sometimes I drive and it doesn’t happen at all, others it flickers every 10-20 seconds.

I contacted tech support who asked if I updated the firmware and that the update should fix it. I expressed that I am unable to successfully update it through CarAVAssist and that I the firmware is not available online. He said it would be online in the next week. I am going to update the firmware when I can and then begin return procedures if that doesn’t improve it.

The firmware process via the app is a joke! I wasn’t able to get it to go through either
