  1. I agree that soldering is better but I am hesitant on soldering the VSS for several reasons: 1. The location is very tight and there is not much wire exposed, it is located in a thick wire cluster at the PCM in the engine compartment. 2. This may not be the final radio in the car and the next one may not require a VSS connection. This decision is up in the air. I know the blue t-tap is for thicker wire, that is why I am asking if anyone knows the gauge of the VSS wire. I used red and I think it may be the wrong one. Thanks to everyone for their input. I know you want me to h
  2. The reason I'm asking is because I want to use the correct t-tap (please, no flaming for using t-taps) for my connection. I think the VSS wire from the unit (AVIC-D3) is either 14 or 16 ga. I am thinking the VSS wire in the car is larger. I used a red t-tap (22-18 ga) to hook it up and I am getting an intermittent speed pulse (most days it is fine) on the nav unit. So I am thinking I don't have a good connection. I probably should have went with a blue t-tap (16-14). I am also wondering if I can use the blue for the smaller gauge wire of the nav unit or would it be too big.
  3. Does anyone know what gauge the VSS wire is in a 2007 Mustang?
  4. I have my VSS wire hooked up. I have noticed that sometimes the nav map will freeze. When this happens, I have a decent signal and plenty of sats are showing (they are orange, is that good?). But, the speed pulse will read zero. After a while, the speed pulse will start counting and the map will start working again. Also during this time, the speedo in the vehicle dynamics will display a banner saying it is not available at this time. When the speed pulse starts working, the speedo will start working again. If I disconnect the VSS wire, will the vehicle dynamics speedo still work?
  5. If I install this and it hoses my unit, i.e, certain functions do not work anymore, can I reload my original disc to set it back to the way it was? Just in case...
  6. Mine will do this quite often. I have no idea not it is. My VSS is hooked up and working and I have plenty of bars for reception. I have even had the compass do it.
  7. Are you grounding the Parking Brake wire that is coming from the harness or are you grounding the wire coming from the Parking Brake? You should be grounding the wire from the harness, the bypass really has no connection to the actual Parking Brake.
  8. I want to disable it because lately the nav has been going crazy by putting me off track, etc. When I Clear the Learing Status everything is hunky-dory again.
  9. I'm sorry but I am at work and I don't have access to my mauual. Can I turn off the Learning Status? I've had to clear it several times for various reasons and now I would rather have it off.
  10. JRT, yes, I have an 07 that had the Shaker 500. So, what I am getting from this thread is: Plug a Y-adapter into the red and white RCA coming out of the AVIC D3. Then, plug the white RCA coming from the existing Shaker 500 amp into the remaining RCA of the Y-adapter. That's it? Do I tape off the red RCA to keep it away from things or is it basically a dead cable?
  11. Nope. I have the same situation and can't figure it out. Sorry. Luckly, I never have anyone in the back seat. But, I will be watching this thread.
  12. JRT, I don't know why you nav is acting funky but I have an 07 Stang set up the same way; antenna on rear deck, metal pad underneath, wire facing toward the front, etc. and my nav works fine. So, I would venture to say your setup should work. I always get more than 2 bars and they are yellow. On second thought, I don't have tint. Maybe that is a factor.
  13. Let me preface this with earlier the BT was working perfect. Phonebook transferred over, presets set, everything worked fine. Also searched, found nothing similar. Had problems last week with no sound on the BT but got that resolved by resetting the D3. At least I think it was resolved? After resetting the D3 I had to pair and register the phone over again. No problem. Transferred two numbers over from the phone, no problem. Went to the Phonebook on the D3 to add the numbers to the preset. Problem. When I select the number/name, all it does is highlight. The only options I
  14. I lost the sound on my BT the other day. People could hear me but I couldn't hear them. Sounds like the problem you have. Resetting the BT module did not help. I called Crutchfield and they said that how you daisy chain the IP cables can affect the sound. I think they said the BT must be hooked up first. I'm not sure exactly what they meant as I only have the BT and not any of the other devices, i.e, sat radio, so it wasn't a solution for me. But, it is something else you can look into. BTW, resetting the D3 fixed my problem. But, it sure was a PIA.
  15. I'm sorry, I didn't mean to imply that I hooked up to the Hazard Flasher (although, in a way, it is) I hooked up to the Hazard Flasher button illumination wire, which lights up when the lights come on. No need to be sorry,I wasn't aware of that type of hook up.So the power that illuminates the hazard flasher icon powers your illumination wire? Yep. Works great. It is located about 6 inches above the radio, easy hookup. My Hazard Flashers are activated with a button on my center console.
