I was in Best Buy several months ago and saw a D3 with the knob missing, so I know it can be taken off. It was a shaft/pin with a notch in it that, I'm guessing, the knob locked into place on. It didn't look like it was broken. I'd like to take mine off and replace with an all black one.

Theres nothing really special/different you have to do for a Prelude installation. Just follow the instructions and you'll be fine. Are you stuck? Do you post on preludepower by the way? There are a couple of us luders on here. Good luck.

Yup, I was stationed in Japan from '02-'04 and the cell phones that are comming out now in the USA are just begining to compare with the ones that were out over in Japan back then... its crazy. Most new cars over there have navi/tv standard anyway.. its a much different market.

If thats the case, I agree. Still tho, different signal or not, the technology is available to have that feature here. Europe/Japan, always ahead of us. The market is an entire different ballgame all together. Here its: poduce the most inexpensive product for as long as you can. Over there its: produce the best product you can to compete with everyone else's product, or get your head taken off (slag for, you will lose out!). Oh well!

^ I'm not sure but, that was the Porsche USA site, and even if the signal is different.. its still a Navi system with a digital tv tuner (something most of us on this site want/more info about). Not sure who makes the Porsche Navi systems or if that tuner feature is only available in Europe. Maybe someone with more insight will chime in.

what do you mean wear? Is the knob loose, missing? I want to change mine out because I want an all black knob for a stealth look.. but that just me being picky too.

I noticed while back when I was reading up on the GT2, the Porsche Navi has a built in TV turner. Going by thier website, it can pick up digital signals. The word (on this site) has been that no one makes digital tv turners yet for cars, but there must be some way. Follow the link a read the PCM feature. I'm also waiting for updates/details/pictures. I have an i-pod and it works great but its new so I cannot display video without downgrading and I'm not doing that! Thanks!

^^^ yeah, there was one time when the screen showed me the road kept going, when in fact it dead ended. Looks like it could have ended due to construction, but i dunno. Does tele atlas use the postal service data base for our maps..DOT... or what?

if the street is new is won't show up. I think sometimes people depend too much on the directions of the NAV.. remember, with a NAV system, you have a map of every state/city in the country on the screen.. you can scroll and look around yourself to find out where you are and where you need to go. I live in a small suburb of Tampa and new steets are going up, certain streets get blocked off, widened, re-routed, ect; your NAV system doesn't know that DOT changed 'insert st name' last year, when it wasn't like that 3-4 years ago... I would love to have the 3D birds eye map view. Would there be anyway to hack/update/mod the D3 to get that feature?

Thanks, yeah I saw that but it doesnt charge the ipod and you can't control the music on ipod from the D3, which means you'll have to unplug/plug that cable every time, and it costs $50. Question for you, I saw a post u wrote and said you downgraded to the 1.0.2 firmware... did you get any negative side effects? I've read where some people's ipods mess up after downgrading. TIA

If I'm understanding right, the 6G classics are NOT supposed to let you turn the tv out to ON..? Well mine does allow me to turn the tv out to ON, but I still don't get any video on my D3. So I guess the real issue for 6G classics is the firmware? For those of you such as whtcrxghst an others who have downgraded to 1.0.2 firmware, did it cause any negative side effects I have read about (spining HD, freezing screen, low battery, ect)? I'm ready to downgrade but the horror stories I've read are holding me back. TIA

The bypass works for me for a little while; the next time i start up my car i get an 'improper parking brake lead connection' warning and the bypass of course does not work. If I reset the D3, it will work agian (with no parking brake warning appearing), then the next time I start my car, the same thing happens... parking brake wire warning appears and no bypass. I checked and double checked all of my splices. Is this happening to anyone else??
