  1. I thought you could always do that. I normally put the volume at a 'safe' level before turning off the car, so I may not have noticed that this wasn't possible before the update. This also works with other sources. I know I've listened to CD audio and XM while playing around in 'testmode'. You can't do anything other than adjust the volume, but it's nicer than having to listen to silence while 'hacking'... -Eric
  2. Go right ahead. I removed all those RCA connectors since I have no immediate plans to add an amp. Just pop out the wires by lifting the tab for each pin (like you did to move the mute wire for bypass). I did, however, make a drawing of where they go, should I ever decide to buy an amp... -Eric
  3. The issues with the proximity of the phone must be phone specific. I have my Motorola E815 mounted in a cradle within a few inches of my F700, and have ZERO issues with connectivity. You can see how close it is in the reverse camera video I posted a while back. The phone cradle is mounted to that bracket on the right hand side. By the way, since the update, the bluetooth works fabulously! Audio quality is great on both ends of the conversation, although I'm NOT using the Pioneer mic. I thinks it's way too ugly, so I'm using a Nokia HFM-8 mic (see picture below). I have it mounted to t
  4. Create a folder named "Pictures" on your SD card and put it in that folder. -Eric
  5. Maybe a wire or something is sticking into the cooling fan opening on the back and touching the spinning blades? This is Jason's picture of the back of the unit... -Eric
  6. Just a guess, but they probably include a disk on European models because of the many different languages required there. In the US/Canadian models, providing only English, Spanish, and French is sufficient. The internal flash apparently can't store them all, so they provide the remaining languages on a CD. Since they're including a disk anyway, it makes sense to also throw the PDF manuals on there as well. -Eric
  7. Things are looking promising! I'm not very good at explaining things, so excuse my 'rambling'... The original setup gives you 3 prompts for a standard turn. For example, "Prepare to turn right in 1/2 a mile... Prepare to turn right in 1/4 mile...Take the next right". I decided to try to eliminate the prompt in the middle. From what I can tell, this is triggered by the line starting with "300". I just went ahead and deleted every line that started with "300". Sure enough, she no longer gives that prompt! Everything else still works fine. One problem with deleting ALL the lines starting
  8. It appears that eliminating prompts is definitely doable. Check out THIS THREAD at Pocket GPS world. Those guys are adding prompts, but it should be just as easy to delete. I know what my mission for this weekend will be!... -Eric P.S. I will also be changing the term 'roundabout' to 'circle' on my unit...
  9. I stuck them in the other thread... http://www.avic411.com/forum/viewtopic. ... 363#112363 -Eric
  10. Here ya go! [*:3m3wt3qn]Put these 2 folders on the root of an SD card [*:3m3wt3qn]Insert the card in the AVIC with power off [*:3m3wt3qn]Turn on the power and let it boot [*:3m3wt3qn]It will copy a few files. These should be the same as on the current update [*:3m3wt3qn]Close the "OK screen to see the WinCE desktop. Since the close button is in the top corner, I find it's easier to drag the screen down and to the left (use the bar at the top like a normal window). A stylus works best for navigating the screen. [*:3m3wt3qn]Have fun!... -Eric P.S. Don't blame me if you brick your uni
  11. I think Pioneer accidentally allowed us into the 'guts' of the unit with their initial firmware update. That one had the 'Testmode' and 'MiTACAP' folders which are the only way I know of to boot into WinCE. Notice that the updated firmware release (the one currently at the Pioneer website) does NOT include these files... I decided to play around with the WinCE interface tonight. I didn't make any changes yet, but I thought you guys might want to see some of the info in the WinCE Control Panel. I stuck a bunch of pictures HERE. Also, I transferred the entire contents of the flash disk
  12. Nah, I'm just annoyed with the prompts, like everyone else. I'll only accept that 'awesome' title if I'm successful at fixing it... -Eric
  13. Yes, I'm quoting myself... I may have found the reason for her saying "right?" instead of "right". Open the 'commands.csv' file (extract the 'Voice_TTS-nua-eng-us-f1.zip' file located in the \MiTACAP\APL2\iGo\content\voice directory. The commands.csv file is in the 'config' folder). Check out cell B4. There's a typo! See my picture below. I think I'll try fixing that typo this weekend and see if she'll stop asking the question. If that works, then I'll try modifying some of the other cell data in hopes of eliminating those excessive prompts... -Eric
  14. You should be able to boot into winCE using Pioneer's recent update. Did they release the update in the UK? I haven't tried any hacking yet, but I would think that replacing that .wav file with another sound (with the same filename) 'should' make it play your new sound when you get the alert. -Eric
  15. You might want to try replacing the .wav file associated with that alert with something more audible. I understand that you can't increase the volume of it, but maybe a different sound might be easier to hear? The .wav files are located in the \LPUE080\APL2\iGo\data.zip file (or at least they are in the US version). -Eric
  16. The .bmp files you can't view are compressed bitmaps. I found a program that will uncompress them!... Download the "Bitmap Tool v1.2" from THIS page. The installation is in French, but it's a standard windows installer, so it's easy to get it installed. Once installed, you can switch the interface to English (click the UK flag at the bottom). This tool will also compress regular bitmaps, so it looks like we might be able to re-skin the interface (albeit with a LOT of work)... -Eric
  17. I agree that the voice prompts are excessive. The first prompt seems to be based on speed. On the highway, I get the first at 2 miles. but off the highway, I get the first at 3/4 or 1/2 mile. This is fine, but I really don't see a need for any more until I'm close to the turn. What I find the MOST annoying is the "In 400 feet, enter the highway...". Well DUH, I'm already on the entrance ramp! Do I have any other choice?... Also, Teleatlas needs to continue to improve their map data. I had to drive up to Danbury, CT yesterday. On my way back, I got ZERO prompts where I-84W splits off t
  18. The 180 might be 180ms (0.18 seconds), so it might be worth trying a larger value... -Eric
  19. I did a quick search of GnatGoSplat's registry listing in hopes of finding the "Boot_Speed"="Tortoise" entry. I was hoping to simply change it to "Boot_Speed"="Hare", but no such luck... -Eric
  20. 1.) If you press and hold the volume knob it will mute, but since it takes a few seconds to mute, I find it much easier to just turn the volume down/off... 2.) I don't know, but I highly doubt it 3.) This one confused me at first too. Adjust the illumination level while you have your lights ON. It will remember that setting -Eric
  21. I wholeheartedly agree. There's really not even a need to go into a standby mode or hibernation. Simply turning off the screen and audio would suffice. The backlight is probably the largest power draw in the system. The CPU and fan should draw very little current during this "wait" mode, so there's no issue with draining the battery. Also, this mode could easily be user-selectable, so those who prefer a complete reboot every time (although I doubt anyone would want that) could just disable it. -Eric
  22. These all look awesome!... Since we seem to be on a roll, I'll put in my request for an Acura logo... -Eric

    Pins on the map

I have removed pins successfully with the instructions on page 37 in the manual. Make sure the cursor (the red circle with the cross hairs) is on the pin or it won't work. -Eric
  24. I'm wondering if it's possible to change what she says. In the "MiTACAP\APL2\iGo\content\voice" directory, there's a file called "Voice_TTS-nua-eng-us-f1.zip". When unzipped, the "config" folder contains a handful of .csv files that can be opened with Excel. I'm thinking a bit of editing might alter what she says. Where I live, we still have a number of traffic circles, and she insists on calling them "roundabouts"... I'm not too keen on bricking my unit, but maybe some of the more 'daring' members might want to experiment? For example... If the voice data for certain distances is altered
  25. I just installed the update on my F700. The update went very smoothly, but after it was installed, the voice was Jason, even though Samantha was shown as the current voice. In other words, just like pavan01 stated. As suggested, I tried selecting Jason, quitting, then choosing Samantha again, but the voice remained Jason. What ended up fixing this for me was to re-select English as the program language, which forced a reboot. Afterwards, selecting Samantha brought her back to life... Hopefully this method will be helpful to someone. -Eric P.S. The best part is, with the update, Sa
