Ideally, I'd like to see Pioneer provide a listing of what 'undocumented features' (AKA bugs) that they have addressed in the revision. I'd also like to be able to download the original 'buggy' version in the chance that the new revision 'breaks' something that currently works. In other words, a way to go back. They should really just maintain a page with all the revisions they release, with a revision history to go along with it. You know, like nearly every other piece of software out there. I know, wishful thinking, but it would be nice... -Eric

Lots of retailers online selling the F-series

well i got mine off ebay and i got the full warranty. Direct from the Pioneer website (LINK)... "Pioneer does NOT authorize any of its dealers to sell new products on eBay. Pioneer's agreements with its dealers prohibit sales on eBay. Accordingly, Pioneer does not offer its limited manufacturer's warranty or rebates for products purchased from any dealers on eBay." Good luck with that full warranty!... -Eric -
Wow! I didn't even bother to look at the screen name!... Since you had to set it to 'battery' to get the camera view to go away, it means that the reverse wire on the AVIC is seeing a constant ground. I would just forget using the reverse wire on the Metra harness and instead just connect the AVIC's wire to the actual reverse lamps wire (in the kickpanel or at the rear bulb). Then it will definitely work. -Eric P.S. You'll be very happy with the Boyo camera. I have one on my car, and I'm very impressed with its low-light sensitivity. At night, the image from the camera looks like

A quick Google search reveals that the reverse wire in the Metra GMOS-LAN harness apparently doesn't work. Check this link for very specific installation info. Lots of detailed pictures! http://www.skyroadster.com/forums/f5/at ... all-25294/ -Eric

As HiFiSi stated, you probably won't find this exact combination of ends on a pre-made cable. Check THIS LINK though... You might be able to get a cable that you can find an adapter for one end to convert to your connector (or chop off and install the right connector). -Eric

A few panel mounted USB-A connectors... http://www.l-com.com/item.aspx?id=7299 (nice because it fits in a round hole) http://www.l-com.com/item.aspx?id=4753 (more compact, but needs a square cutout) http://www.l-com.com/item.aspx?id=7272 (for those who want a 'chromed' look) http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/EHUSBABB (click on other picture for front view) -Eric

I would expect (hope?) that the updated firmware will be released at the same time that they start shipping the 'updated' units to the dealers. -Eric

I don't like the volume know either. It's way too shallow, and it needs grooves in it for traction against your fingers. Too bad this can't be fixed with a firmware update... -Eric

Yes, you'll want the camera to have constant power when the ignition is on, otherwise you won't be able to view the camera while driving (Select "Rear View" at the top right of the "AV Source" menu). Also, check that the "Polarity" setting on the camera setup screen is correct. You can choose between "Battery" and "Ground". If your reverse lead gets 12V when in reverse, set it to "Battery". If the reverse lead becomes grounded when in reverse, select "Ground". -Eric

I bought the F700BT because I have no need to play DVDs in the car, and MSN Direct isn't all that exciting to me... I can't justify the additional cost for things I'll probably never use. I'm glad that Pioneer offers a lower-end model for guys like me!... -Eric

Nope... I don't even own an ipod. -Eric

I was taking a video for a different thread, so I figured I'd do one to show the delay before the camera is active. The video starts with me turning the ignition on... www.dericn.com/videos/AVIC/ReverseCamera.mov -Eric

Better yet, here's a video of the many steps to reach that screen... www.dericn.com/videos/AVIC/AvoidScreen.mov -Eric

I haven't quite figured out how it works, but my F700 has something called an "Avoid" screen. To reach it: [*:1teoezw1]Route a destination [*:1teoezw1]From the menu select "Destination" [*:1teoezw1]Click "Route Function" at the bottom [*:1teoezw1]On the next screen, select "Itinerary" [*:1teoezw1]Select one of the items on the itinerary (Did you know you can select them? I didn't!... ) [*:1teoezw1]Select "Avoid" at the bottom rightYou'll get the screen shown in my attachment below. -Eric

I recently mentioned in THIS POST that the reverse camera works almost immediately at powerup. I don't have an ipod, so I can't confirm that it works while it reads the ipod, although I suspect it WILL work right away. My F700BT takes the 'usual' () few minutes to finish fully booting, but the camera works right away! I have a Boyo VTL420 license plate mounted camera on my RSX, and the display through the F-Series is excellent! The Boyo is a wide-angle view, so I can see EVERYTHING behind the car. ZERO blind spots!... My only gripe is that the top of the display reads "Image May Be Re

This is not true on my F700BT. Rear view IS available during boot. It's available about the same time as the previous audio source starts playing (just a few seconds). During bootup, you can't manually select it via the AV Source menu, but it DOES switch immediately to the camera when the car is put into reverse. -Eric

This is an annoying issue to me as well. Those empty boxes eat up a lot of screen real estate, and look pretty stupid when not navigating. Another thing that can also go away is the "Multi-info Window" at the lower left (distance to go, arrival time, etc.). When not navigating, these all show zeros, so they're just taking up space. I realize it can be turned off by turning "Full Screen Cockpit" on, but then it's ALWAYS off... -Eric

Oops... I was mistaken. On the CD, it DOES remember where it was within the track. On the SD card, it does not. -Eric
-
I don't own an ipod, so no to your question. I have only tried it on an SD card and CD. If it works properly on an ipod, I'll buy one. -Eric
-
The AVIC does remember which TRACK it left off at, just not where WITHIN that track it was playing. Therefore, it starts at the BEGINNING of the track it was playing. Fine for songs, but useless for long audio tracks like I play. -Eric LOL...

One minor complaint about MP3 playback... I never have time to listen to O&A live on XM, so I download their shows as MP3s to listen on my own schedule. The MP3s are long (>4 hours), so I listen to them in the car (via SD card) AND at home. Let's say I listen to an hour of the show at home. When I get in my car, I need to fast-forward an hour to get to the same spot. The problem is that the F700 only has one FFWD speed.... S-L-O-W. It's maybe 2-3X normal playback speed, which means I would have to hold the FFWD button 20 to 30 MINUTES to move an hour into the track... My a

I've found that the GPS antenna doesn't seem to be very picky about placement. As a test, I stuck mine upside-down UNDER the passenger seat, and it still worked fine driving around. I ended up mounting it just beneath the center of my dash on a 4" x 6" piece of 3/16" sheet metal. There are plenty of GPS satellites, so there should be no problem seeing enough of them to maintain a 3D position. I have all green dots on the status screen. While driving around, one or two dots only occasionally drop to yellow... XM, on the other hand, has only 2 satellites in orbit, so I would imagine that pl

The F700BT does not have a connection for VSS. Only the F90/F900 have a VSS wire. -Eric

For those of you taking advantage of the AVIC411 18% off...
dericn replied to al-eds.com's topic in Pre-Release Archive
Hi guys... New member here... Just wanted to thank al-eds.com for the EXCELLENT deal on these units. Also thanks to diegosilang for arranging the group buy!... I've been lurking in this forum for a while, and had been considering purchasing the Z2, but didn't like the fact that you couldn't change the illumination color (my RSX dash lights are all red). I also really didn't want to spend that much money. I finally decided last week to just go ahead and buy a D3, even though they are somewhat outdated. Immediately after I ordered it, I stopped by this forum to do some more research on my p
