Unresolved Issues (After Firmware Update)
tacomaboy replied to njohnston's topic in Problems/Troubleshooting
It works better, but this morning after making a call, it took over 55 seconds to hang up. I pressed and pressed and nothing. No music or anything. -

Possibilities of the F-series after this update
tacomaboy replied to triplet101's topic in Hacks/Mods
OK, so I am not a GPS hacker, but I am a Software Engineer with over 6 years professional experience and a Bachelors and Masters in Software Engineering. So here is my .02 All that you propose is possible given the time. Most likely the screen that we see is a program that is written by Pioneer to provide a User Interface for multiple hardware drivers and 3rd party libraries. The drivers run the specific hardware in the unit (USB controller, SD Card controller, radio controller, audio output, bluetooth, etc etc). 3rd party libraries and applications would be the GPS, MSN direct, etc. -
Wow... so I am not the only one who feels like this.

Ipod Voice Control - What's the verdict?
tacomaboy replied to Head Unit's topic in Problems/Troubleshooting
Mine seems to work very well actually. Though when riding with friends they clearly think I am a moron for talking to my stereo, and they routinely screw it up by adding curse words to the end of every artist or album request I make. -
Yeah they are really awful lol. Wish I had a bench setup to mess around with this.

Hmm.. does the .ui file contain xml? I am wondering if they used qt to develop the GUIs.

In my experience, yes. XM comes on very fast - within 15 seconds. SD card takes at least a minute. Ipod is relatively fast as well. Now keep in mind though the music comes on fast, you cant change it till its done loading, which is about 2 minutes. For things like XM, HD radio, AV1 input, and anything else, while you can't control it once it starts playing you can at least control the volume. The SD Card is the slow one for me loading up, and its the one I use most, unfortunatly. Now, it could be because I have a 16Gb card with 6 GB of data on it.... does anyone else have

While they are annoying, they are pretty low on the totem pole of problems IMO.

F series - Restoring TTS after upgrade - Quick Tip

Yes she does. She also says "bear rye" instead of "bear right". -
You interested in an F900BT?
-
No, they are still there.

Problems: review your unit at crutchfield.com
tacomaboy replied to schmiddytwo's topic in Problems/Troubleshooting
I am still having lots of issues even after the update. Heck I just tried to make a bluetooth call during my drive to lunch, and the call went out, but the call screen never popped up. I couldn't turn the volume up or down, or get to any screen. And earlier this morning while on the way to work, I was listening to the SD card, and then I pushed the button to initiate voice dialing, and then it sat there for about a minute - changed songs - and rebooted. We are in need of more updates I think, lets keep the pressure on. -

This is a great idea, I think I will follow up. Whats the email address? -
Yes, obviously with the update last night I know they can be written to. I even specifically without using their Flash ROM writer all you can do is pull stuff off the flash, not write to it. Please reread my comment above Have you tried? Not that I would recommend modifying the system, but I have a hard time believe that it is not writeable. It is no more Read Only than the SD card you insert for the update. They are all Flash ROMs. It shows up in My Computer as a standard drive from what I recall. How about this. How about YOU try. You're missing the point and getting hun

Not often - though I have had two two or maybe three times since it locked up during SD Card playback.
-
Yep. I wonder.. did it do that before the update???
-
Well it looks like crap - I should have used my DSLR instead of blackberry to get the picture. But I created a text file and copied it to the SD card, then copied THAT to the "My Flash Drive". I also created a new folder in "My Flash Drive" then deleted it. So its not locked.
-
Yep you were right. At some point I had hit the reset and forgot to turn it on. I didnt realize I had to reset it each time I pressed that reset button. Thanks! But why do I have to do this to get the audio to work...

The problem with losing ipod playback after the update (apparently one other person has it) has sent me over the edge. I am going to pull it out this weekend. Question, do ALL NAV units (read, Kenwood) take 2 minutes to boot or is this really that bad? Reason I ask is that I am planning on going back to plain old CD/MP3 system. I dont need this frustration.

There is still a glare. But if the sun is not directly reflecting off of it, it looks a LOT better. BTW would you like to trade for my 900BT? I have had enough...

So this implies you may be correct, unrequited: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_CE I am not familiar with CE but I have programmed on a Real Time Linux build for years... and this is a pretty poor RT system. However, trying to understand how the "closed system" works is giving me a bit of grief. I suppose the entire CE File System can prevent writing. But to me that seems to be a software limitation and not a hardware limitation. I guess I will mess with it this evening, and see what I can find.

Thats a fair question, and yes I did. I set AV2 to input as well. But its not just the video. Its the AUDIO.
