  1. As I've gotten quite a few PM's piling up in my inbox asking about this process, I'd like to recap the pertinent details here. Getting the d-base from your F series is covered in the Stephanie's post found HERE Editing the d-base can be done using a firefox addon or using SQlite Database Browser found here http://sqlitebrowser.sourceforge.net/index.html. The phone numbers should be in 10 digit format, remove any 1 or +1 from the beginning - ex. 0005551212, not 10005551212 and especially not 1 (000) 555-1212 The contacts themselves should not consist of anything at all besides a
  2. Apparently you can split the Tom Tom vif/chk files back into ogg files with a custom tool. Whether that's of any use to people hacking voices I couldn't say. The tool info is here: Download the latest version of VIFTool (http://www.ghostwheel.de/viftool) and use the split function using the following syntax: viftool split viffile.vif chkfile.chk (for example 'viftool split graeme.vif data99.chk')
  3. Boy did you open a can of worms with that question In any case, the only feature the 900 or 90 offers that fits in your limited interests is MSNDirect. If you can live without the gas prices, movie times, traffic updates (if you're in an MSN area) and such then the 700 is reasonably priced and (in my experience with it) has fantastic XM capability and bluetooth function. The bluetooth bit is of course dependent on your phone model and if the F decides to play nice with that particular model. I personally took my phone into the shop and paired it with the demo unit there to test it ou
  4. The first time I imported contacts from the iPhone was after I updated. Somethings definitely still a little off when transferring from Apple then.
  5. Previously, like many of you I'm sure, I could only voice dial by speaking the number I wished to dial. On a whim I pulled the contacts db out of my F700 using the instructions found in Stephanies post here. When I looked through I found that while the majority of the numbers were in the format: 1235551212 several were listed as (123) 555-1212. I changed all of the (123) 555-1212 to the 1235551212 format, saved and uploaded to the avic and voila! Voice dialing by name now works like a charm. Hopefully this helps someone besides myself. For the record the original contact
  6. It's blacked out because you have the AV source on. Turn it off and go back to settings.
  7. 'Play Next track' works fine for me on ipod... though it seems really lazy when I have to press the button to do it and I could have just tilted the knob to change the track anyway
  8. LOL! I'll tell you what he did. He did a lot of reading of different posts, then he asked questions - some n00bish but never ones that were easily found by a quick scan of the forum. Oh, and he listened when people answered. To the OP, nice install. Something to be proud of, especially considering you said it was your first time.
  9. Why you would expect the unit to read the pdf version of the manual is beyond me. If you have already applied the update, or if your unit came already updated, you only need to VR catalog once, then turn it off. It only needs to be redone after making changes to the ipod - adding/removing songs. Not being able to catalog is a new one on me. Have you verified that your ipod is listed in the compatibility chart (both the model and the firmware)?
  10. Don't have the radio search. On the radio choose "Pair from the mobile phone" Have the iPhone search... in the Settings>General>Bluetooth screen
  11. My 1st gen iPhone is on 1.1.4 as well and it paired just fine using the method: "Pair from device" on the F Open Bluetooth on the phone, select the F from the list, then pair it using pin 1111 It imported contacts just fine (though like many others I can only voice dial by number) and the system has re-paired with the phone every time about 5 seconds after the system is fully active. I also can't play video through the system and I can't see why that would change with 2.0. I haven't seen any other posts supporting that claim. I do know for a fact that changing my Touch to 2.0
  12. Sorry I haven't tried the SD for video yet. I'm using an old 5th gen iPod video since my Touch with 2.0 is problematic and I'd rather not keep my iPhone tethered to the car constantly.
  13. The 90 and 900 can play DIVX (or DIVX avi) from a CD or DVD. The 700 can not. the SD or USB (or iPod) inputs can play some video types. Check page 177 of your manual for what can/can't be played.
  14. You don't need to redo the whole update for the TTS. Follow your own link and start at Step 7
  15. Considering the word for word post... I'm guessing yes
