Cool that's great news. I bought a 3gs like 2 months ago after breaking my 3g and was upset to discover it wouldn't charge. I'll be picking up a white iphone4 when they're released, I'm stoked to know it's compatible. My buddy told me his clarion nav is completely incompatible with his iphone4. Sucks for him.

I suggest buying the apple one if you don't want problems. Several people have had bad luck with the pioneer one and it's not even considered generic. I would most definitely recommend against generic china made garbage. Especially since, from my experiences, apple product have a history of not working very well with the chinese made goods

My bluetooth works flawlessly and sounds great, I edited my contacts list so VR works flawlessly with my iPhone3g, since changing from the pioneer video cable to the Apple one I haven't had a single drop-out, and my nav is great with the cancel route button hack. Hopes of a boot up that saves me a few seconds and marginally better button response doesn't sound like enough for me to chance messing up how great this unit has become to me. Who's with me?

I'm pretty sure anapod doesn't put the songs in the same format that itunes does. Itunes renames each song with a random hex string and puts them all into random folders. The fact you use anapod and the Avic can even list the songs (I'm assuming it can) is quite a surprise to me. That said, the only way you can update ipod firmware is through itunes. So your choice is to break down and use itunes, or deal with it only half-working with the avic as it is.

Just thought I'd share my experiences. I've had my 700BT for about a month now. I installed it with the pioneer cable. I had continuous dropouts with my Nano. Everytime I'd start my vehicle it'd play for a minute or 2 then drop. My iPhone would also drop out but with a lot less frequency. After 2 weeks of that, I came across my Apple composite cable in a drawer. I bought this cable a while ago and had never used it. I decided to try it in my Xterra to see if it worked, mostly because the design of the pioneer ipod cable is terrible (aesthetically speaking). But what I've noticed in the 2 w

I think you should buy stuff that fits your vehicle properly but I don't have to look at that everyday. If you like it and you're happy, cool

LOL at the switch idea. Use those harnesses yetta suggested, get switched power from the ignition like I suggested but don't install a toggle switch. -

it probably only helps with the arrow icon on the map. If the wire is hooked up the icon probably backs up instead of turning around if your driving in reverse for a while. I didn't bother hooking mine up. If I get a camera, I'll do it then but I can't find a genuinley advantageous reason to bother in the meantime.

That can work but I've seen it pop fuses a lot with regular hu's. I'd imagine the avic would draw a bigger current. The ignition is always a good source, I forgot to mention you definitely need to fuse it if you tap it there. -
Using VR with contacts issue (XV6800 Windows Mobile 6.1)
fiction520 replied to 3sixty's topic in Problems/Troubleshooting
Have you checked to see if the unit at least created an empty .db file? The problem is that these contact files aren't given a generic contacts.db name. When the avic creates the contact list the db file has a name the is specific to that phone (based on who knows what). I'm posting from my phone right now since I'm at work but I'll upload an empty contacts db later. At least thats a start and maybe you can figure something out. -
GPS Antenna metal plate & Lost GPS Signal
fiction520 replied to stoca01's topic in Problems/Troubleshooting
I installed professionally for years. I do know what I'm talking about. Youre right, metal will interfere with his signal since of course it can not penetrate it. There is tons of metal under the dash boards I made the assumption he probably got under some metal. Putting it where I told him will yeild great reults and is very unobtrusive. Also there is absolutley no need for a metal plate of any sort. The antenna is mounted to plastic in my car. Also antennas in every boat and RV I've installed on have been mounted to fiberglass. -

oh ok, I missed where you said you have a gti. Many volkwagens have no accessory wire behind the radio, you need to tap one near the ignition. Whatever wire you tapped thinking it was an acc wire is a constant wire and that's why it won't shut off. I'm sure if you search google you find a suitable wire to tap. -

Solder your connections, then you'll never have to worry. And crimpers are mostly crap because people don't ever purchase the right size ones for the wires they are trying to connect and don't use the correct crimping tool. Needle nose pliers don't do the job correctly. I'm a few years removed from installing but that looks like some sort of german harness (VW, BMW). It looks like it's for an amplified system. Is your car amplified?
