The term is "survival of the fittest". And since I'm in a cranky mood tonight, I think that you should also be aware of the following: Why am I an moron if I advocate Social Darwinism? Darwin's theory states that in any population there are variations within individuals. If, due to the interaction between the individuals and the environment, the variations in one subgroup of a population provide an advantage towards reproduction, those traits are more likely to be carried on to the next generation. Through subsequent generations, if those variations continue to be advantageous, thos

but that is the problem...some of us paid 1200 for our units, others paid 400. you might feel like you got a good deal but others, like tacomaboy, feel betrayed. Had I paid 400 for the 900bt i would be upset but not betrayed, but I paid 900 bucks for this thing and for what? A shitty nav system, ipod problems, MSN that does not work and has not worked since the second week, and shitty bluetooth. Im sorry but that is unacceptable. Yep thats my problem. I guess if I paid 400 bucks I wouldn't be too pissed, especially with all the reviews out there saying how bad it can be. So re

Just curious: is there a consensus as to the best place to mount the HD radio adapter?

I wouldn't be too worried about the European price. That price probably includes VAT and other additional costs that don't exist in the US. There are a lot of products sold in the US that go for much more on the other side of the pond.

If you're like most people, when you go to select a song on the iPod using the AVIC F series, you'll see artists sorted in alphabetical order, except for bands that begin with "The". Solo artists wind up being sorted by their first names. So a list of artists might look like this: Afghan Whigs Alicia Keys Barry White The Beatles Bruce Springsteen Ryan Adams In iTunes 8, there's a new feature that sets a "Sort artist" tag. You can enter in a tag used just for sorting. For solo artists, you can type in the artist name, last name first. So "Bruce Springsteen" would have the sort ta

FWIW, I'd rather have an overestimation of the time to get to the destination. It makes me feel better as I see the ETA go down. My guess is that the ETA is calculated with very conservative parameters, such as never ever ever exceeding the posted speed limit. The travel times that Google Maps provides is also always longer than what it takes me. In your case, if the ETA for your 2.5 hour trip is on a highway with a 60 mph speed limit, and you drive 75 mph, you'll get there 30 minutes quicker. The only two times I've really paid attention to the ETA was on a drive from NJ to K

F Series Blue Tooth Phones That Work or Don't Work
wilburpan replied to donnycouchpotato's topic in Problems/Troubleshooting
Motorola Z9, with an AVIC-F700BT, on AT&T. All functions work well, EXCEPT transferring the phone book from the phone to the unit. Phone numbers transfer, but I get the "Multiple John Smith entries without knowing which entry is for home/work/mobile" bug. Voice dialing by contact name also doesn't work. -
Pioneer is still listed on the TeleAtlas website as a partner company. There's no mention about dropping support for the F series. http://www.teleatlas.com/PartnerProgram ... s/TA004657

Actually, the acquisition of Teleatlas by TomTom happened back in June, and has been in the works since at least July 2007.

Pioneer finally wants to listen!! Read this.

This is what I would like. 1. Fix the issues with copying the address book from a cell phone to the AVIC F700BT where you get multiple listings under the same name, but no indication as to whether the number is for home, mobile, or work. 2. A version of the AVIC Feeds program that runs on a Mac. -
FWIW, it seems to me that you do have valid complaints about your unit. I only have a couple of comments. 1. I haven't had the issue of Bluetooth terminating my call that you describe. This is with a Motorola Z9, and pretty much every day I'll be in the middle of a call and turn my car on. The handover to my F700BT is perfect. Same thing with turning off the car. I don't get that 5-10 second pause that you describe when making a call, nor do I get the map caching problem that you describe. 2. For me, going from off to FM/AM radio is about 8 seconds. Going from off to iPod is ab

For those of you F-series users who have an iPhone, do you use the iPhone and a separate iPod for holding music, or do you have the iPhone do double duty?

I have my F700BT set up so that gas stations, parking, and restaurant POIs should show up on my map. However, as I'm driving around, the map doesn't show POIs even though by going through the Map Confirmation screen and then hitting the Info button, all kinds of POIs are listed. I've made sure that I've hit the "Same Visibility in Subgroups" button in the menu that controls setting the POI appearance. Is there something I'm missing?

I'm recalling this from my old audiophile days: The type of equalizer that is being used in the Pioneer units is called a parametric equalizer. With a parametric equalizer, you can choose: 1. The frequency to boost or cut 2. How much to boost/cut the frequency 3. How wide the boost/cut should be around the frequency you picked. This is actually much more powerful than using a graphic equalizer, which most people are familiar with, and does have a very good application in car stereos, as one of the issues with getting an even sound in a car is dealing with resonances. In fact

Well, to try to pull this thread back on target, I just did some minor hacking with my Mac. The SD card is in FAT format, and with a SD card reader it just shows up on the Mac as a disk image. I was able to copy the phonebook database from my F700BT to the SD card, read it on my Mac, edit the phonebook database to fix the "multiple entries with the same name" issue, using the Firefox SQLite Manager add on, and copy it back to the F700BT without a hitch. I haven't tried anything involving modifying the data.zip file yet.
