the apple cables comes with a usb end where you can plug it into a usb car charger to charge your phone.

i have a closeable cubby above my d 3 so i cut a hole under the cubby to bring my apple dock connector up there so i can put my phone in there when i want to hook it up. You can always try that cable from soundgate but i didn't want it because if it doesn't work I have to pay to return it to crutchfield. I know for sure that the apple rcas work. So instead of the headache I would just go for the apple cables just to ensure they work the first time instead of trying different cables and being disappointed
