  1. Check your mic and make sure its not in the SP/DIFF port. I accidentally did this on mine and got the nosie you describe. Once moved to the Mic port, all will be fine. Greg
  2. The links to the pics are broken, its an old post. I completed the disassembly, repair, and reassembly without the pictures. If you follow the written instructions in this thread, and you have some dexterity/patience, you can do it too. It's not as hard as you may think. Just make certain you know what screws go where (write it down if you have to). There are a bunch of different sizes to deal with. Good luck... Greg
  3. Yep - this happened to me as well. I had plugged the mic into the SPDIF port. They are very close together and easily mistaken. This will solve your issue. Greg
  4. I hope someone posts an image of their drive running this new version I am badly in need of some new maps. My neighborhood isnt even on mine (Z1 with Z3 HDD) Here's to hoping! Greg
  5. Just wanted to post an update. I ordered a new rack from Pioneer and was able to replace it myself using the instructions above (without pics) to do the job. If you follow the instructions above, and have a some what logical brain, you can do this. The only step that wasnt mentioned above that I had to do to remove the broken rack was to remove the motor/gear assembly. Once you get to the bottom layer, you will see two silver screws holding the motor/gear assembly down. Simply remove those two screws and the gear/motor assembly will simply lift up enough to remove the broken rack.
  6. Damn. This just happened to me last week. My unit will open without issue, but when you go to put it back to normal, it gets hung and self-opens again, I assume as a saftey to not break it, like a garage door. If I "help" it when its closing it will cloe all the way. I had the screen all the way down, and I can see the "rack" isnt where its supposed to be. I would love to take this thing apart and fix it, but all the pics on this thread are gone Does anyone else have any pics of this process? Much appreciated, Greg
  7. If you use a non-Toshiba Hard Drive, your unit will re-boot every 15 minutes or so. There is an internal check that goes on to verify the type of drive. You can only use the drives mentioned on this forum as upgrades. Your best bet is to get a pre-configured drive from garretttoomey.
  8. Took me 30 seconds using the instructions on this site. Pretty lame if you cant just look at the pictures and do it. A video would be overkill.
  9. Watching CNN right now and they just said CC is liquidating all of their stores starting now. Feel sorry for people that bought extended warranties from them
  10. I have a 2009 Toyota Tacoma X-Runner. The suspension is very stiff and it hasnt been a problem with my Z1. I notice sometimes in the hardware menu it will say "excessive vibration", but it hasnt been a problem.
  11. I think mine resumes back to where it was.

    z3 vs n5???

I would take the Z3 over the N5. Mostly because the nav data is on the hard drive instead of a DVD. Its faster, and you dont have to worry about those nav DVDs evr again. Also, its pretty easy to upgrade the Z Series when new software comes out. Lastly, I beleive you will like the large, sturdy screen on the Z Series. If you dont mind them doing custom things to your dash, I think the Z is the way to go.
  13. I dont know about buffing scratches out. The part that is scratched is a pretty thin plastic film. I think you can buy a new screen from Pioneer for less than $100. I think someone has posted a link on here before about it.
  14. Thanks DJ... I added the volume to my shortcut menu and that is a lot easier to deal with. Still wish you could use the volume buttons! Greg
