Was that the one on Ebay from Canada? It gets to a blank screen and nothing? The LCD inverter board is shot on it. I spoke with the seller before bidding on it. Replacement part costs $245. He had 2 of them on Ebay, the second one was a better buy as it has the "Please insert the appropriate disk" message.

Replacement LCD panel didn't fix the issue. I think the inverter board is bad. The display is very dim. Unfortunately the inverter is part of the entire LCD PCB board which is over $200. Looks like it may be time to start looking for a replacement unit.

It can be fixed. You have to replace the touch panel. Not too complicated if you are familiar with electronics. The part costs about $70. If you decide not to fix it, I would be interested in taking it off your hands as my D1 has a bad LCD screen.

I haven't driven my car all winter so the other day I go to start it up and my D1 screen is blank. All the buttons light up as usual but nothing on the screen. I can turn on the radio and use the controls but can't see what I am doing. Does anyone know if this sounds like a dead LCD or if it's something more serious? If it's just a bad LCD, I will order one and replace it since they are fairly inexpensive. I just don't want to spend the money if it's something more serious.

Could someone make some generic Mercury backgrounds? I looked through the entire thread and didn't find anything for Mercury. I'd like one for my Grand Marquis.

I have Avic D1 and would like to install a backup camera. Does anyone have a picture of the wiring connector that is on the back of the unit? Are all the cameras universal so I can pick up just about anything or so I have to pick on with the right connector?

My friend has a Garmin GPS and he downloaded a custom navigation direction arrow in a shape of his car. Is it possible to do similar stuff with the Avic?

Will these work with a D1?

I recently bought a used Avic D1 and have a couple of questions which can hopefully be resolved. I've read conflicting info on the web regarding the unit's DVD playing capabilities. Can someone tell me if D1 is able to play DVD movies? Second question, is there a preliminary check that I could do before installing it in the car to make sure everything functions as it should? Ones again I read some horror stories about touch screens going bad on these and GPS position being out of whack. And last question, my unit only came with East side DVD, is it possible to download the West side DV
