  1. Another nag on the D3 output, it seem over about 26-28 on the knob (with all internal settings flat) the output gets a bit noisy. Just listening to zero bits, you can easily pick up a point where the background goes from quiet to noisy. So I guess the usable output voltage on the D3 is very very weak indeed. This is with the CD drive and SLA set to zero (0). I'm going to have to hook up the scope and see if adjusting the SLA value increases the output voltage of the sources I use (CD, iPod) without adding any noise or clipping on the output signal.
  2. And I'm guessing that is maximum output? Dang, that's weak.
  3. Okay, so I finally added an amplifier to my system. I'm running a D3, and I added a Zapco DC650.6 to increase the power. I'm using the Symbilink connectors at +0db from the front and non-fading outputs. The head unit is set at flat, no bass boost, nothing. Playing various CDs from the head unit the output voltage seems really low. I have the gain set a 400mv (on the Zapco you can dial it in exactly) and it doesn't seem to be hitting max volume even dialed to 40. Anybody taken any measurements of the outputs to see what's up or have an idea about their gain settings?
  4. Find Dr. DivX and use it to convert the video.
  5. That was it, I was hooked to the IN on the XM unit, not the out. Everything works great now, thanks!
  6. Okay, installed an XM unit (the non-nav traffic one, 920XM i think) with the D3 and activated it. I get all the channels in the list but no audio. Regular radio, DVD, CD, iPod plays fine. Checked SLA, all at center. Any idea why I'm getting no audio from the XM unit? I've tried the reset button to see if that helped but no dice. Shows "On air" and all that stuff. Thoughts?

    d3 problem

I believe it goes away once the unit sees a valid GPS signal that it can use for navigation.
  8. I didn't realize you could add your own audio files for POI.
  9. I was playing with a friends D3 after he got it, and while messing with the navigation system, I entered his address. I saved it as a location and associated the dog barking sound with it. Now, every time he gets home from work, leaves for work, turns on his car at his house, etc. his car barks at him. It's hilarious. Next time I get 5 minutes alone in the car I think I'll add work, Taco Bueno, and various other haunts I know he goes by while driving. Sorry, I had to share it's just too funny.

    Night mode

If you have two wires (one is illumination on/off and the other is illumination dimmer) will the avic d3 adjust the brightness based on the input voltage or will it just keep a single setting?

  12. Anyone try this with an external DAC yet? I'm wondering if it would work with a Zapco D/A converter box. Of course, it probably would not work with the iPod input, since that is analog, unless they sample the input, process it, and then output the signal in both digital and analog.
  13. Does it output PCM if you're playing a CD/WMA/MP3?
  14. I haven't seen anyone mention this yet, but I notice there is a digital out port on the back of the unit (for future expansion, of course). Does anyone know if this port is live and what one can expect from it? Is it an optical port or a mini-plug coaxial digital signal perhaps? I'm trying to see what one can expect out of it to wonder if an external DAC could be hooked to the unit.
  15. Paint.NET is a great tool, it's free, and you won't feel bad for stealing it because you didn't.
