  1. Maybe my frustration is getting the best of me, but you mean to tell me you are satisfied with a mapping display that will not display any further out than a mile on screen?? I cannot believe you would be happy with that. The problem is, the mapping software sees an exit every mile and will not expand any further than that! If you have exits every 5 miles, then it will expand out further. But there is no setting that will allow you to bypass that unless you manually expand the view...then all sorts of crap on the screen and it will not keep you centered in the map. I can't believe anyone
  2. No, they don't work worth a crap. You just don't know it because you didn't research it as well as you thought you did. You live in a community of barely 100,000 people. Go to a place with a few million and lots of feeder freeways and come back and tell us just how well they work. If you want to be able to see 2 miles in front of you (that's right...I said TWO!) you can't do it. Expanding the setting out as far as they will go may not give you a mile. So you pinch the map out and it fills the screen with crap and your location is no longer centered on the map...it will scroll right off i
  3. Yep...sucks big time. The navigation piece isn't bad. But the way the maps are displayed is beyond belief and acceptability. I am thinking hard about going to a 4100NEX and adding the U250/260 nav unit to it. But I need to see the maps first. Of course, the the 4100, I could always use Android Auto or Mirrorlink and use my phone. Right now, if I need maps, I have to use Waze on my phone. The maps on the 8000 are worthless.
  4. It's the worst mapping software I have ever seen in a big city. It will only zoom out about a mile (unless you do it manually, then it won't track and fills the screen with crap). Hell, I CAN SEE A MILE!!!! And in many cases, it doesn't give the name of the street until you are practically on top of it. Worst I have ever experienced.
  5. Can someone please tell me what mapping software (database) the 8000 uses? Is it Navteq? Or something else? I can't tell you how much I hate that piece of the unit, so I'm looking at alternatives. Just want to make sure what I'm looking at. Thanks in advance for your help!
  6. If you read the thread, you will see my opinion of the maps. For me, it's a deal breaker and I'm going to do something about it...including considering going back to a Z series. The maps in that are so superior. However, the NEX series is superior in every other way...especially Bluetooth. No comparison there. Navigation is about the same for either with a slight nod to the Z series because it's not so annoying. But the NEX navigation is still pretty darn good.
  7. If there's a setting, I can't find it and Pioneer doesn't know about it. I would love to hear it.
  8. Waze zooms in and out great! So does Google maps. I'm not sure what problem you are having there. I've tried various mirroring apps for my phone so I could use those maps, but unfortunately, all the apps reduce the screen size of the maps...which kind of defeats the purpose. Android Auto shows promise, but you have to upgrade to the 8100 or 8200 to get it...and if I spend money on anything, it won't be on a Pioneer. It will be something that gives me the mapping software I want. The maps in all my AVIC-Z* units all zoomed in and out manually without any loss of function. Impossible on t
  9. you guys are happy with the maps?? I have an 8000 and it's the worst mapping software I have ever laid eyes on. Navigation has always been fine. But the maps...oh my #@#$R#@ GOD!! Try starting down the freeway and expand out so you can see the highway and what's ahead in 10 miles. Unless I have a defective unit, cannot be done. If you expand the map, it throws a bunch of junk on the screen and does not follow you. I've never seen anything like it and I'm going another route because of it. I KNOW WHAT'S A MILE IN FRONT OF ME PIONEER! I CAN SEE THAT FAR!!! Sorry for the rant...
  10. Let me think about that one for a bit and see if I can come up with a solution for you. You know, you might be better off just wiring it direct to the battery and using some sort of voltage monitor to cut it off once your voltage falls below a certain point. I need to think about this for a bit.
  11. You battery back up is a very easy solution. You can buy 5V voltage regulators all over Amazon. Good ones. Some are designed to supply power to a USB port for charging. I would be shocked if you pay over $10 US. Next, purchase a TR7 relay...also available from Amazon. Simply program it to delay shut down to your voltage regulator for a few minutes and you are good to go. You wire constant battery power to the relay. You then wire an ignition source to the relay. Then program the relay to supply power to the regulator any time it sees ignition voltage, and to delay power shut off after
  12. I'll have to see if he has any. Of course, I can't post any pics here...and the other options are such a pain in the ass.
  13. I think the Android stick is a very viable solution to a lot of things...it just has to have GPS to make it work with a lot of things. I'll get that happens soon. My son integrated a Samsung tablet into his CTS-V. We put in a premium amplifier so whatever he listens to through it sounds incredible. He has a ton of apps that offer so much. He can use Google Maps, or whatever else he finds available...but he pretty well sticks with Waze. It would take me a couple of days to explain all this thing will do. And it it totally integrated with the vehicle. Turns on and off with the ignitio
  14. Let me ask you guys this. What is the difference between AppRadio, and Mirrorlink? Won't Mirrorlink do everything you are after? Project your phone to your screen, allow the use of steering wheel controls, sound system, etc? It seems to me that is a very viable solution to this. After reading about all the issues people are having with Siri and Carplay, it looks like you better not count on that feature to be seamless...or even usable in some situations.
  15. I've done that. It doesn't do what you think it does. It does not change the aspect ratio at all. All it does is cut off or open up how much of it you can see. I've got it wide open...and it still doesn't change the height of the image. I'm like you...I thought that was the answer. But it didn't fix a thing. Makes me wonder if it's the phone or not.
