  1. I can attest that the firmware that came with this unit left a whole lot to be desired. It seems only fair that Pioneer would release the firmware separately the way they have done it in the past. No one is claiming that it is a justification for stealing or for piracy. Anyway, perhaps Pioneer will release the firmware update separately after sales have tapered off. I'm just not sure if this is worth a flame post to bash others for installing so-called unofficial updates to their units. This portion of the forum is dedicated to, among other things, hacks, which are unofficial in nature.
  2. Thanks for the replies. I guess I am stuck with it now, even though I like the unit with the v3 firmware. It would be a nearly flawless unit (for me) if it recognized the iPod with ever restart of the car. I am excellent with negotiating new car prices, but the AVIC was an impulse buy, so I will make sure to only get stock radio equipment next time. Any ideas what others are paying for these through the dealership?
  3. Well, as far as I understand, the 700 has a much shorter warranty period. I understand that the unit is much cheaper, but I'm not considering that one in my comparison. The 7010 was installed under the direction of the dealer, included accessories, and comes with a longer warranty. I just want to compare apples to apples, so if anybody has gotten the F7010BT through their (car) dealer, I'd like to see what's what.
  4. Hey All, I'm trying to find out if I paid too much at the dealer for my unit. I paid $1800 and that, of course, includes the warranty that matches length of the warranty for my GTI. It has bluetooth and the iPod adapter, and connects to the buttons on my steering wheel.
  5. Thank you very much for the information. This update worked perfectly for me. The reboot seemed rather abrupt, but all is well.
  6. I'm just talking about taking the x910bt.zip file and decompressing it for transfer to an SD card. The combination of unzipping it in Windows and using Windows to transfer it to my SD card worked like a charm. I didn't unzip and rezip any of the files in that dump.
  7. I posted this in the 3.0 install guide, but since this is such a common problem, I wanted to post my experience on its own so nobody will miss it: First of all, thank you very much to everyone for sharing their expertise and experiences. This made things pretty smooth. All in all, this update was a success with my unit (AVIC-F7010BT). I have experienced some of the problems that I see commonly reported here, so I will describe how things went for me... My unit was recently upgraded to 2.006 (I hope i have the right number of decimal places there) but I had never modded it and I hadn't
  8. Hello all! First of all, thank you very much to everyone for sharing their expertise and experiences. This made things pretty smooth. All in all, this update was a success with my unit (AVIC-F7010BT). I have experienced some of the problems that I see commonly reported here, so I will describe how things went for me... My unit was recently upgraded to 2.006 (I hope i have the right number of decimal places there) but I had never modded it and I hadn't done anything unofficial with any hack or mod. So I followed the instructions verbatim. When I rebooted, however, I had the system
  9. Thanks. I tried this last night and this morning, anyway, because I was feeling rather froggy, so I jumped! This worked, but I encountered some "gotchas". I will post about my experience in the 3.0 upgrade instruction thread.
  10. Would you mind posting the name of the file, perhaps, if that complies with the forum rules?
  11. Great job! The only thing that detracts from your theme is the fact that you are playing a song by Hinder. Other than that, it looks incredibly cool!
  12. Searching for things like CNSD-100FM, Pioneer AVIC 3.0 update, etc.
  13. Is it just me, or do other people think that paying $60 to fix a bug that shouldn't even be there anyway is a complete and total rip off?
  14. Hey all, I have the AVIC-F7010BT unit with 2.006 firmware. This was just upgraded today from 2.000. I have a 5th generation iPod classic that will initialize perfectly sometimes. Once in a while, when I turn the car on, it won't be recognized. Now, I searched this forum before I posted this, and I realize that other people have experienced the same problem. But I did not see another (related!) problem that I also experience: the same symptom happens with USB thumb drives, too. I will, for example, drive to work in the morning while listening to music from the flash drive (or iPod, of
