I did almost the same putting ZAGG invisible shield ($15) under the edge of the plastic front frame. http://www.zagg.com/invisibleshield/pioneer-avic-d3-navigation-cases-screen-protectors-covers-skins-shields.php My unit is F7010BT so I did cut it a little bit. Since then (six months ago) no scratches at all.
