  1. The only thing I am not satisfied with is the slow map update releases. I use a different gps devise in my truck. They come out with map updates for it every 6 months. I have purchased the last two updates for it for $99 each. The map data that came on it was newer than the map data that came on the avic. I would not recomend buying an avic if you are planning on having the latest maps. I feel that once you make the purchase they do not feel that they need to suport you anymore. I just turned someone away from an S1 because of it. I have owned my avic since the week they were released and ther
  2. I just got an S1 today. You can't search by intersection on my Z1 but you can on the S1. All you do is hit the menu button, then the right arrow button on the touch screen, and then Crossing search button on the touch screen.
  3. Not only was he wrong about that, but it can play mp3 cd's. It just won't rip them. I have played mp3 cd's that I burnt with several albums on it.
  4. I love that the Z1 has a hard drive. When I visit friends houses I ask if I can download there new cd's into the avic while I am at there home and dont even need to leave with them. Also When I purchase a new cd I rip it into the avic and then put the cd in my other car. I love not having the clutter of cd's in my car. most of my music is on mp3, but it will usually rip it after burning onto a audio cd. You just need to manualy enter the track info after. having your music on the hard drive allows you to make custom play lists as well. I do use my voice recognition feature and find that it is
  5. I said that because that is what pioneers customer tech support told me, as well as another avic owner. I thought it was wierd as well. Acually I do not think my car had any other problems, I just changed everything because I still had the noise. I do not try to insult anyone here I was simply trying to contribute to the site with the info I was told by pioneer and another avic owner. It sort of made sence because I fired up the head unit several times before I installed my amps or speakers in the car. I know a lot more about electronics than most stereo installers. I was an electrician on av
  6. Found a speed converter for you made by dakota digital. With this I dont think you would have any problems. You would still be able to use your stock speedo and have an electrical pulse for the AVIC Z1. I am sorry if I made it sound intimidating because it really wouldn't be that dificult. Maybe add 1-2 hours to install. Mach 1s are totally sweet man. Good luck. http://www.dakotadigital.com/index.cfm/ ... prd109.htm
  7. Depends on your trans. I just got done installing my z1 into a 71 Nova and I think we would have the same problems. The biggest problem is your transmission. If you have the original transmission it will be very hard to hook your speed wire to your speedo sender. Most old tranys use a spinning cable instead of a wire. I have a newer t56 6 speed that uses an electronic speedo so I did not run into the same problem. I believe there are companys that make an adapter to convert cable to electronic, but I dont know of any that will alow you to have both so you might need to switch your speedo to el
  8. Sounds like it might be the loud noise I had even though mine was not due to installing sat radio. If you powered the sys up without the speakers or amps hooked up you could have blown the internal fuse. I tryed everything to get rid of my noise before sending it in for service. The service center said it was a blown internal fuse and had the unit back to me exactly 1 week from when I sent it in to be checked. When I got it back it worked great with no noise.
  9. I attached a pic from the xm site of my area. It seems very very cool. Lots of aditional info!
  10. Man do I ever feel stupid. That was it. I thought the other wire was not used. Works great now. I can't believe how much info it found local to me. Thanks again.
  11. Thanks for the response. You might be on to it. I have the power hooked up, the gps entena, and one big cable that goes to the back of the avic. I thought the instructions said the other cable port is not used. Thanks I will check into that.
  12. Hello everyone. Well now that I have my alternator noise problem fixed it is time to figure out the other problem that I am having. This one is weird. I have a subscription for both xm and nav traffic but only get xm radio. My nav traffic has never turned on. The wierd part is if I check on the xm status screed it says STATUS not connected and SIGNAL STRENGTH no signal, yet I get all the xm radio stations and they seem to be working fine. Pre sets work and everything. Today I called and verified that I have the subscription for both and reset the xm reciever and the Avic Z1. It does not seem
  13. I dont think the Eclipse can use bluetooth and it does not have nav traffic. You can only use sirius sat service. No XM. It does have a 30 gig drive. (AVN5495) and it is HD radio ready. My avic setup in my nova is one of the best sounding stereo I have ever heard, but I am using external amps on all my speakers which are Infinity components and jl 12w6 sub.
  14. If your 4 runner has a double din you can install it. I know there are people using them in 99 tacomas and I think the dash is the same. The only time you really can't is if your ac or info center buttons are integrated into the stereo and even then I was told there are adapters for a lot of aplications. It is also more dificult if you are installing it into an older vehicle that has a mechanical spedo cable. The AVIC needs to tie into an electrical speedo sensor. Luckely my old nova has a new 6 speed with electric sender.
  15. Just to let you guys know and to try to contribute to the info here I got my avicz1 back today! It was out of my posession for exactly 1 week. I live in So cal so the shipping was only one day from the so cal pioneer repair center. I pluged it in and it is working great!!! Finally after owning this unit for about 6 months I dont have any alternator noise!!!!!!! They said they replaced a single internal fuse and reset the system.
