  1. I saw few post regarding the Pioneer external mic (included with the nav unit) isn't the best. When I had U310BT, my wife complained about the voice quality. So, when I ordered x710BT, I ordered Garmin external mic as well. I haven't had chance to really test the BT on x710 and F500 with new Garmin mic. I will let you know if this is actually better than Pioneer mic.

    I bought mine from Amazon.

  2. It seems that it's more to do with the viewing angle issue. My F500BT on Mazda6 is located about eye-level (top compartment), and my x710BT on S-Type is located below. I checked x710BT from eye-level and it seems to have better contrast than viewing from the top-down.

Also, I poked around TestMode but couldn't find any settings to adjust the screen other than brightness.

  3. I downloaded this.... took a quite a while to download. It has NT Q1, Q2 and TA 2009.06. Some other maps for EU countries. Generally 2009.06 TA maps were up-to-date for most of USA (much larger file size for map and poi). But there were some errors in 2009.06 TA Canada map. So, I'm using NT Q2 map for Canada and it looks better at least Vancouver area. Btw, I'm using 2009.06 TA Canada poi (NT poi is just not enough).

  4. I used AuxMod I purchased while ago. It looks like it's not available. You might be able to get one from Buy&Sell area of mazda6club forum.

Basically, AuxMod let you have 3.5mm aux-in using Tape source. I used it to wire speaker out from F500BT cradle (through ground-loop isolator). It works quite well. I used to have in-line amplifier but I removed it as the maximum on F500BT was just sufficent.

  5. I had same/similar issue with U310BT when I had it.

Basically, it has static noise after each button press (hard & soft keys). It's hard to hear or notice when driving & playing music. However it's very noticeable when the engine is off.

    Any suggestion?

Only thing I didn't follow the installation guide is the grounding the hand-brake wire (hardwire by-pass).

  6. Personally, I gave up on U310BT and purchased X710BT (refurbished) for extra ~$50ish. The POI and GPS features were the main reason. I thought about purchasing additional poi, but it was cheaper to purchase x710bt that will give me much more features and nice big screen. I have f500bt on my car and I couldn't get use to small u310bt's screen and gps features. Also, the routing was really bad in my area.

Now, I have to wait for one more week and drive down to pick it up. But, I think it's worth it at the end.

  7. I'm debating to return U310BT (still less than 30days from local shop) and get refurbished unit from eBay. Do you think it's good idea?

    How's the Pioneer refurbished units?

It's under $448.99 + $8.94 shipping. I will have to drive down to US to pick it up, and might have to pay taxes when i come back. I paid $447(cdn) for U310BT (incl. taxes). Basically I have to pay about $100 extra for x710bt.

    Thanks,

  8. I updated to get latest APL (av and bt apps). It looks quite good and works quite well for me. I guess it's really up to you if you want it. There isn't any significant changes that I can tell from v3 (wince & apl) compare to v2.

New BT doesn't display across screen. It's on right side of the screen and doesn't cover up the tracking arrow.
