  1. Travolta, simply add Navigonto a folder in APL4 and point Avicnet to the exe file. Tap Avicnet, settings, settings menu (i think) and chose where you would like to add it. Then type in the path eg. My Flash Disk/APL4/Navigon/navi.exe. Choose an icon, and then save.

Garmin was included in avicnet 2.0 as was tomtom but both were removed to save space. Both are inferior to Primo 2.0 imho and having them on my unit was a novelty, therefore I took them out when I uploaded my altered avicnet 2.1.

  2. In order for maps to be shared each iGo program must be in the same directory. Eg, APL2/iGo, APL2/Primo, APL2/Primo3. Your best bet is to copy Primo3 (assuming it is the one you want to use) onto the root of an SD card and put all the maps you need in it's content folder. In the sys.txt (SDcard/Primo3/sys.txt) remove or comment out all lines under [folders] except "has_secondary_root=0". That way Primo will use the maps in its own content folder rather then elsewhere. Note when Primo3 exists on the root of the SD card it will run that Primo rather then the one on My Flash Disk. The same holds true if it were put onto a USB drive.

  3. Has anyone got Primo 2 running smoothly yet ?I gave up after constant freezing.I read somewhere you need 128 m of RAM to use the advanced features of Primo 2.

    Hi Ovalball,

Ive been running Primo 2.0 since it came out with no issues, even running it simultanious with HOBdrive. I don't use TTS or have any waypoints displayed on the map (except favorites) although I do have some raster maps. I remember at one point after selecting the option to show all gas stations and whatnot that it did crash a few times. Also, are you sure the ezrider process is killed prior to the launch of Primo? I'm not sure what else to suggest besides doing a wipe of your My Flash Disk and starting from scratch. Don't we have 200+ MB of ram on our AVICs? It should be plenty enough, Ive read posts where people were running Primo on 64 MB units (can't recall if it was 2.0 however). Odd it freezes on you, usually when I have experienced memory issues Primo crashed and an "out of memory" box popped up. Keep trying, you will get it working. :)

  4. I checked which version of NNG Raster I had used and I believe it was 3.1.5, the same as the one you provided. It looks like it is the newest version available.

With seperate "tiles" I found the maps lined up perfectly rather then creating one huge map with roads mis-matching each other per grid. It was much more time consuming, however. I downloaded one 0.125 x 0.125 degree "tile" at a time rather then many at once. I also didn't split the image via the manage selection menu in SAS Planet (just 1x1) when saving. The guide in the link you provided splits the map horizontally 2 x 1 vertical. Finally in NNG Raster I only rendered one image rather then many (the guide does 2 i believe). I also deleted the tmp.jpg in the folder I was rendering. If there was an old tmp.jpg file in the folder from a previous render it seemed to increase the likelihood of getting an error while NNG Raster was preparing the map. One last thing I discovered, make sure to give each map a new "city" name (with each new map you render) in NNG Raster rather then just using the same city as previous maps and changing the settings. I found this to be the cause of many errors in finished maps (not lined up, muddled, ect).

I checked my unit and currently have 5 seperate maps. The file sizer per each is roughly 30 gb, I don't recall the zoom I used but you can even see my car parked in its stall clearly. Don't be afraid to play with the compression quality, it will help reduce the file size drastically with little to no loss in quality.

  5. Great job! I got raster maps working awhile ago and am fairly happy with them in my home area. Although google maps don't work in SAS Planet, they do in the latest versions of SAS planet nightly. I find they look alot better then the yahoo maps. I believe the grid squares need to be 0.125 degrees by 0.125 degrees (@ 0.125 degree intervals) or they would not display. Also, I had to download and render one at a time or the roads would not match up for the extire area. Did you find the same? I think I only have about 4 grid squares currently. I tried getting the entire city (5 or 6 x 3 or 4, can't remember) and Primo crashed when displaying too many at once. I used the SHQ setting which comressed the maps into smaller files and allowed them to display in greater detail when zoomed in. The instructions in the link you provided are very good, I wish I had found it earlier instead of slowly doing this via trial and error with bits of info off russian forums xD. I don't recall using the bicubic filter, I'll give it a try next time around. Oddly, even my Android tablet with 1 gb of ram crashes when displaying too many maps. I'm guessing it's an iGo memory management issue and not the device hardware itself. One more thing to note, there are newer versions of NNG Raster floating around. The first few I tried had limitied options (NNG quality only, no HQ or SHQ) so it can't hurt to search for a newer version. I beleive I am using the sys.txt setting: raster_2d_high_quality=1 setting rather then 0 and have not found any difference in performance with SHQ maps.

Anyways, thanks for sharing and congrats on your raster maps!

  6. HI Lala1,

When you launch primo it will 1st check if there is primo and its contents on the SD card, then USB and finally on the units memory (my flash disk) if the previous are not present. If you place the primo3 folder on the root of the SD card it will launch primo from that location. Simply copy ift from my flash disk/apl2/primo3 to the root of the SD card and edit the sys.txt. As for the sys.txt, each program (primo, primo3, igo) will read the sys.txt which is in the same folder. This would mean you would edit the sys.txt in the primo3 folder (assuming it is the Primo you would like to use) on the sd card. In order for primo to use maps locally (in its own content folder) you can comment out or delete the [folders] and its commands in the sys.txt.

Note the primo3 is the newest release of Primo (Primo 2.0). There is no sound in this release except when listeneing to music via SD.

In the Primo folder you will find an older version of Primo (Primo 1.0) and it is the only working release which will give you nav audio regarless of AV source.

I hope this clears things up for you, if you have any issues or questions feel free to post back and I will help you as best I can.

  7. Hi Chuck, did you try any newer releases of Primo 2.0? I tried one from March and found it to be buggy. It seemed to have trouble rendering upcoming roads at certain zooms/distances and they would flash on and off the screen for a few seconds before coming in solid. December's seemed to work OK but I switched back to October's since I seemed to have the fewest issues with it. I didn't notice any new features in the newer releases, so far as I can tell all versions of Primo 2.0 are the same in that aspect. Maybe if you guys updated to a newer version try and go back to the original?

On another note, has anyone played with raster maps (satellite images) on Primo? I decided to give it a go the other day and am happy with them. I was outright giddy when I finally got them to work, haha. I tried putting a map of all of Edmonton (twelve 0.125 x 0.125 degree segments) at 18 zoom on my unit but had memory errors and crashes (adding and changing the memory settings in the sys.txt didn't help, the unit still crashed). With just a couple of 0.125 x 0.125 degree maps of my home area at 18 zoom and several other maps at 17 zoom I haven seen any problems as of yet. At 18 zoom you can even see the lines for parking stalls, it is quite impressive. Here is a guide on how to create them, use google chrome to translate to English: http://forum.pocketb...hp?f=51&t=48574

  8. Dude, I use a Canadian f500bt daily and have successfully ran Chucks mod, Diaftia's and now avicnet and I have had no problems. The f500bt is superior in some aspects such as its internal battery allows for a true standby mode which means it takes as little as 5 seconds to resume where it left off instead of doing a complete boot like the f700bt and f900bt (>1min to start navigating).

If you are having issues try to re-flash winCE and copy all files back onto the unit using a different SD then before. This thread will provide you with the necessary winCE files.

  9. Good job gabbygenier, I'm glad you were able to fix the issue. I don't have my unit handy, but if there is a garmin folder with a "run" folder within you just need to add the garmin files and you are all set. There are several sites such as mobilism, gps underground, and mobile passion where you can get those files from. You will then need to create a shortcut leading to it to it in the settings/menu/navigation menu. Map the location as my flash disk/apl4/garmin/run/run.exe and you are all set. You can find unlocked maps on TPB.

PMS, I vaguely recall playing with the use_os_volume=1 command and I remember I set the TTS volume for Primo in the stock iGo settings and somehow those settings took precedence over Primo's. I don't remember any more details unfortunately. Comment out the keybind commands for volume in the sys.txt just in case. Also, try use_os_volume=0 instead, maybe this will force Primo to use it's own set volume rather then the volume the SD music is at.

I never tried using the screen off feature, sorry I can't help you with that one.

  10. PMS, I believe the middle button which leads you to the voice command screen is broke in avicnet 2.1 and I say good riddance to annoying accidental presses when trying to zoom in and out, ect. I suppose it would be an inconvenience to someone who frequently used this command however.

The sys.txt files are separate from each other, so the iGo8 sys.txt is read by ezrider (iGo8), The sys.txt in the Primo folder is read by Primo and the same for Primo3 and so on and so forth. In whatever folder the .exe for the iGo program is is where it will read it's sys.txt from. Basically they do not interact with one another. Some .exes interact differently with their sys.txt however. For example one primo.exe would ignore keybind commands where as another would accept them. Here lies the frustration, only one primo.exe (which only works with primo 1.0 data.zips) relays sound regardless of source atop the systems sound to give you sound through the vehicles speakers in primo. I have not seen any versions of 1.1, 1.2, or 2.0 which could do the same and to me Primo 1.0 is just too dated and lacks the features of the newer versions to use. I believe older versions of iGo 8 would also relay sound through the speakers regardless of source but it appears as though NNG has removed this capability in newer releases of their software.

The keybind commands only work natively on Primo 1.0. For some reason it works on 1.2/2.0 if a program called AEKMapScan is launched and immediately killed before the launch of Primo, but at the expense of losing all stock button capabilities.

  11. So i loaded the 2.1 files with my stock maps. iGo maps work great, i can go into the Primo maps but since i dont have the maps its just an arrow. audio part works great but i have a few issues.

1)when i go into applications and stuff i see nothing, no HOBD.

2)i dont see the part where i can go into the Garmin UI

Did you delete the iGo save folder? The user lists files inside are required to display shortcuts in the programs, ect menu. Garmin has been removed in this version avicnet 2.1.

  12. Hi guys,

In the past when having memory related issues I have found that I got the "out of memory" popup and Primo would crash, but I have never had Primo freeze. Avicnet doesn't have any low memory settings in it's sys.txt for Primo 2.0 (as long as the ezrider process is killed I have not had any issues with no low memory settings in the sys.txt). Ovalball, perhaps your freezing isn't a a memory related issue? A few suggestions; try remove or comment out all the memory related settings withing the sys.txt. Perhaps try switching to a different skin, I use GJAK 1.08 and have not had any issues. There is also a newer version of Primo (Feb 7, 2012) which is available, although it does not offer any significant changes maybe it is less buggy then previous releases. It is available at GPS Underground if you are interested.

Also note that some licence files require an SD card to be present or odd behavior (reboots) is experienced within Primo when a card is absent. I have found that most of the Primo packages available seem to included the licence files files which require an SD card. The licence files I have included for Primo with avicnet do not require an SD to be present and I havent had any issues since I started using them.
