  1. Hi yes this is weird. I'm not so familiar that I no whats going on. But it is still boot looping unless I type bsp init. Then it seems to run a script, sorts itself out and brings up the software error on the radio screen. Putty then goes blank.

Typing warp when it boots brings the error 'no mmc'. So i tried adding a new blank sdcard in the user slot, but no change.

(could it be looking for update / firmware ? )

I also tried putting the original factory sdcard back in but no change. Also I noticed that the screen wont open now by the buttons. So may have some loose ribbons or could be as it hasnt fully booted. Unit is F60DAB

  2. OK, Im making progress.

I can type now and it pauses window data ;-)

    I tried easyrecovery - nothing.

Tried bsp init and it had some effect. (below)

Now I have no boot loop but have the standard software error - contact pioneer service center.  :-( Does that mean I need new sdcard ?

  3. Guys i've been at this for hours. Although Im nearly blind now staring at those tiny holes, I've remade connections and data is nice and clean now. Thanks for the tip.

But still not sending commands. I press keys as soon as pwr to radio and keep pressing but nothing opens. If I click open 1st then turn on radio I get data, but still nothing happens when I press keys. I've checked and rechecked all pins. over and over. I've also searched for an older version of PuTTy as I noticed the images here dont match the one I have.

I will have a search & read for an alternative unless there are any recomendations.

    putty image.jpg

  4. Good afternoon. I got the settings thanks. Problem was cheap usb - serial device. I think it fried somehow??

Anyhow, got new one yesterday and installed PuTty on another better laptop. Still win 11 tho :-(

result was exactly the same. I tried with settings window open -> turned on radio. Nothing.

Opened Putty after setting as above and then get uboot window. tried everything to add command, pressed keys / space bar etc as soon as radio turned on and always the same.

I dont get all the data that other posts have shown before it reloops. But Im pasting below a couple of loops worth. You might see something in here thats useful? The strange characters are a worry ?

    U-Boot 2009.08 (Jan 06 2014 - 16:32:44)

  5. Hi, thanks for advice.

I tried all night but now something isnt working right.

As soon as i click open on Putty, (without radio switched on) im getting a new window with streams of data garbage, that looks like upside down U's. Obviously tried connections etc.

If I switch on radio (before I click open) nothing happens.

I think the usb things shagged. I'll get another one.

Quick Q's, as I've not done this before, is U-boot a menu? in the radio. I searched the web but could only find referance to android boot options.

  6. Hello, I'm posting here in this old thread rather than make a new one as my question / request relates to this topic.

My unit an F60dab  I'm trying to restore is boot looping still after failed update. After many months looking I now have a new sdcard (internal) with new firmware -incase!! Trouble is because bloody unit is looping I've been advised unit needs to be ' reset ' via PuTTy via a usb - serial connection. I've done all this and at times I can see lots of data, similar to those in posts above.

But for the life of me, despite reading through PuTTy help / info, I cannot figure out how to send commands.

From above I need to send ' BSP SET  0 ' but where do I type it ?

    Does anyone know ?

I'm running the prog from serial settings, then click apply and the prog converts to a new dos type window showing all the data. But it wont let me type anything. Is there anyone that can please advise what I'm doing wrong. Thanks

  7. Following on from this post, it is no farther forward. Like many have discovered now including myself that this site is all but dead.

I have been looking on here for weeks waiting for replies, going over very old posts, following suggestions and then trying to download various links to old uploaded files now all but obsolete.

You have to wonder where did everyone go ? Retired, new projects, new developments, new sites. I'm also guessing the russian invasion of Ukraine has diverted the interests of many posters from that part of the world.

But if anyone reading this does happen to have a copy of a UK sdcard system image F60DAB (yes it did have one after all just well hidden) please let me know or kindly upload it for myself and possibly many others looking.

It would have been nice if we could have all contributed to a central depository for the various files and hacks people once worked so hard to develop. Just to keep these old radios still working and compete against the scourge / scam of big corp flogging carplay  and google assistant and rip off dtronics, pioneers 'support company'.

    Thank you

  8. Hi guys, looking for help on an old f60dab.

Sorry it's a bit of a long post but here's what happened so far...

I realise most users here have moved on, as I once did. I hope someone may be left who can throw some advice my way. But at the very least pls read this as a warning.

After screwing up a good mates  8 year old f60dab by failed updating? I have gone through many of the old posts of days gone by to try and remember what to do. I also tried to download relevant files to assist but sadly nearly all links dead or fail to download. I keep trying.

However with my mate screaming at me, I resorted to contacting pioneer service dept. and was sent to their UK service company Dtronix, Milton Keynes. A £39 assessment fee, plus my postage there and £18.00 back. Around £70 UKpounds in all.
They do have a well organised booking system.

After a few days they sent me a link to the description & quote for repair. (If you're considering this, sit down before reading!)
For a 'liquid contaminated display' repair (buttons stopped working after the failed update)
Reconnect internal ribbon cable, possibly me when I had to retrieve sd card behind screen.
REPLACE s.o.c main board, as it fails to boot and is 'dead'
£690.00 UKpounds + vat (tax)   That's not a typo, SIX HUNDRED, NINETY UKPounds

They did recommend it was not economical to repair - no sh1t !!

I declined the work and had the unit returned. Now i don't know much about coding or hacking but I was an electronic technician in a research dept. of a local University for many years.
So i stripped the unit down to asses the 'liquid contamination / damage' and see about repair. And as expected, not a damn thing wrong with any of it. Using a good microscope I examined every ribbon flex, pcb flex and connector. The touch screen, button flex and controller all perfect, if just a bit dusty.

So I spoke to service dept again at Pioneer UK and mentioned my concern & findings. I also asked why they couldn't re-flash the main board or provide necessary files. They said they would look into it but just emailed me a copy of the D-tronix report.
So a costly pointless waste of time. And confirmation if any needed, Pioneer UK don't care about customers or offer any support themselves. After that I personally wouldnt trust dtronix to re-string my washing line. Lazy money grabbing lying crooks !

In the meantime, I still have the unit 'bare'. There is no internal sdcard on this model and although buttons light up still they dont work, so no way to open display to insert a sdcard in the normal slot if needed.

I have tried with usb stick in the usb ports using goldenapple.tst that had been uploaded by asd255 / spectrax -but no effect.
But as this is a touch screen unit how can there be a button combination to press that there is with knob units?
Not sure if correct, I tried several times to download platform x000   Avic Fx60 EU FW-115.zip  by asd255 but these links are now several years old and don't work.

So I just don't no what else to do now. But as this once great forum is still here, maybe one day someone will find this and offer suggestions.

  9. As most of the posts on this forum are pre- stone age, ie 2010 would anyone know of a up to date list of models released and where they fit in terms of development.

There has been a huge changes in the shift from win ce to android and possibly other formats. But equally lots of changes to pioneer units themselves. Do any even come with cd / dvd anymore. I know very few sold today even have built in navigation.

What always confused me, especially now in 2023 is what series do all the 'newer' units fit, if any. (my personal answer would be c.rap ) but there may some models OK ??

Some of the older F series which I had a few, mostly ended with bt for obvious reasons and later progressed to dab were / are still any good.. Did these even continue with win ce. and were they ever modded / updated.

And with the even newer units 2015 - 2020 the inbuilt functionality declined so much that they are a complete mystery. Does anyone even bother with the modding development of these anymore.

  10. Wow, and wow again. Reading back it seems like one or two really clever developers knew their stuff discovered the holy grail and made great strides.

But here in the future (2023), It's like the clever scientists back then discovered the true meaning of life, shouted out a few instructions for a while and then left the rest of the human race to fend for itself without a manual.

As much as I appreciated all the hard work, commitment and support from these clever people in keeping my unit working and updated, sadly I couldnt keep up with the understanding and conflicting procedures and files needed with even basic stuff like testmode, so like many I just gave up with pioneer long before this discovery and jumped to a better integrating / fitting / looking android unit, that I still use today. Maybe I wasn't alone ?

As I posted elsewhere I was shocked recently to see the decline in pioneer units. No question that even with the flaws and faults and same unchanged box fit, the hardware and quality was good despite win ce. But now for all but a very few models they now mostly depend on a connected phone for abilities and function.

Trying to repair a couple of several year old units for a friend, (2014)  I've found that without working links to needed files anymore or any kind of simple framework or information to follow still, there is little hope. judging by all the number of un replied posts over the last few years many must feel the same way.

The sad thing is, there seems to be a resurgence in these 'older' better quality navigation units as people shun the expensive rubbish peddled as 'car play ready' or whatever and look to buy and possibly one day mod them too.

I just hope the clever programmers, hackers and coders who left us so long ago might one day return to take pity and re-educate us. :-)

  11. Hello, similar problem. Both the unit AND me. I'm guessing we're the last handful of people now using forum. So glad its still here. Thanks guys / girls?  who run it.

Was a god send in days gone by, hope it still is.

. The unit is a mates  f60 DAB. I did an update with an sdcard. problem was sdcard goes in behind the screen which flips down. Update failed and bloody screen wouldnt flip. So kept booting and (trying) to install > failed > restarted. Nightmare. Took unit out, removed screen to get card out. Now unit starts but only has splash logo. Then blank.

I've tried again with usb but nothing. Tried searching but don't think there's any / many posts / help / files for these 'dab'. But I realy don't know where to begin to fix it.

Problem with me, Been over ten years since i last had a pioneer, my brain like the rest is old now. :-(

Just to add, if it helps with any advice. Bottom of the splash logo say's loading. 2 seconds later blank screen and unit shuts down. NO power used at all. Have tried with / without update in usb but ......dead Jim.

  12. I am shocked these head units are still in use AND sold in 2023.

Looking at repairing a failed update for a friend who couldnt wait. So we looked at buying a replacement.

EVERY unit available in 2 large halford stores was the carplay / android auto rubbish. Not a single unit, some were close to 500 quid, had built in navigation.

Pioneer are taking the P. big time. They wont even need to update maps before long as so few units even have them.

Bigger are the fools that plug in their phones and know no better.

  13. I've got a whole image I got from here about 2 yrs ago. It was modded and works great to this day.

Still using it but must be well out of date by now. Also igo routing engine seriously p1sses me off sometimes

Im just looking at upgrading but soo many choices, versions, maps mods, I dont no where to begin.

But if interested and If someone can direct me to how / where I can upload Ill gladly help.

  14. These new models seem great - if you have an iphone.

Otherwise features aren't very much different. Plays cd, plays radio, has gps

In fact I have yet to see a new pioneer model that doesnt revolve around iphone.

And there must be quite a bargain to be had buying an older model that still does just what you need (without an iphone)

  15. Evening all.

Is it even possible? My box is a normal but modded F900bt updated with 3 firmware and sw900 bt.

I've searched for months and see loads mentioned about ipods and iphones playing music over BT.

Even a little mentioned for android. But I really would like to have my avic display any incoming sms .

Or at the very least who the sender is.

I'm NOT remotely interested in playing music from my phone. No really, perhaps I'm ill or summit.

It nearly does something like it already when I get an sms. It pops up a black box, white txt saying new message from caller (unknown).

Ive gone through all options on unit and phone, but little use. Would a firmware upgrade do it?

    Am I missing something?

Phone is galaxy S4, updated to lolipop

Still a great forum. Thanks for any info

  16. Hi Guys, thanks to all who contributed. Just lurking and found your thread so thought Id give it a go :)

I was on ver3.0 updated a year or more ago, and wasnt looking forward to messing with it again to be honest.

But downloaded file and followed instructions and jobs a good un. So many thanks.

Havnt had chance to fully test yet, but one concern I have is I didnt notice comment previously about un-hiding files. I didnt do that??

Could someone please tell me which files / folders are likely to have been hidden, and i will copy over. The install took well over 20 mins so cant have missed much.

Only thing I would like now is an update of UK speedcams. I have my own as back ups, but very old and never go to spain, haha.

Also if i can contribute tell me how. I have all my original back ups - plus a few others.

  17. Sorry for more questions, but this is now working realy well, thanks again :)

i was going to attempt the 'beeps' mod but ended up just deleting the four sound files. Works great and sounds a lot better :)

One thing I'm not sure of, is it booting to primo by default or is it igo still? Apart from the extra icons it looks the same as igo.

I'm also unable to select alternate voices, just the standard english lady, yet I know there are more in the MFD.

I don't see any options to switch. Please advise, thanks

  18. Hello mate, thank you for uploading your 'MFD' file. My unit has been modded a while back, and has been freezing and corrupted. So trying to undo stuff or update again from 3 was looking to be a nightmare. It took nearly two days to download at 30k on rapidshare but has now replaced mine and is working much better already.

What Id like to ask you if you remember is what mods you have/had when you uploaded? Do you recommend any further mods / tweaks. And I can't believe someone would actually put up with the beeps and pops every button press ;)

But otherwise its a great improvement already.

  19. Thanks good advice, but wont that restore all the nag screens etc.as well?

Of course, once I replace with your mod MFD then they will be gone.

Reading your notes again, I'm concerned about the 'sound' issue. Has this been resolved yet.? Imagine it's a real pain.

Edit: sorry to have to ask, would swapping MFD need to be done in test mode or can it be done through explorer

    cheers
