  1. Using phrases like 'LMAO' is for teenagers.
  2. Movies shot 1.85:1 will 99% be cropped to fill the 1.78 aspect ratio of modern anamorphic DVD's. Movies shot 2.35:1 will be hard matted with those black bars you're talking about. DVD's can only use two aspect ratios, 16:9 (ala 1.78:1) and 4:3 (aka 1.33:1) Everything in between needs to either be matted or pan&scan'd.
  3. FAKRA style connectors are SMB connectors with a plastic shell around them. This plastic shell is for keying purposes (that is, so u dont stick something into the wrong socket.) You can REMOVE the plastic FAKRA connector to reveal the standard male/female SMB connector. There seems to be a lot of confusioin about it. As far as D3's GPS socket, that is a totally different animal. It does not mate to SMB connectors, unfortunately, I've tried. I haven't fully looked into exactly what connector it uses, but one solution is just like dummptyhummpty said, to cut off the GPS antenna that came wit
  4. After having this thing installed in my car for almost 2 months, I am finally getting around to posting install pictures and first impressions. Feel free to ask me anything you want about the install! First piece removed exposing the indirect air duct and myserious "sun sensor" GPS antenna mounted. Soon I hope to get rid of it in place of a VW Sharkfin. Stock harness D3 Harness connected iPod cable routed from the glove compartment Fresh out of the box Metra kit. Don't let their website fool you, they do make one for the MkV Jetta/Golf/GTI. Unit mounts added to kit
  5. You understood what I meant exactly. Don't believe what people say as the stock VW SAT antenna works perfectly with an aftermarket HU. My main question to you is whether your car already has satellite radio (package 1 or 2) or did not come with it and you have the long beesting antenna on your roof. If it already came with satellite radio, all u need to do is remove the stock sat tuner box under the front passenger's seat and screw in the aftermarket one to the bracket thats already there. The VW antenna lead will match the connector on the aftermarket tuner box. You might just have to tak
  6. The new GTIs and Jettas have pretty much the same interiors. I have an 07 GTI that was in the shop for about a month and while I was waiting I was driving an 07 Jetta rental. I swapped my D3 out of the GTI into the Jetta for a short period of time, installed exactly the same. Keysense will work, but you need a CAN-BUS adapter from PAC audio (http://www.pac-audio.com/products/produ ... 0Interface) make sure you get the newest versions because the old versions that Crutchfield appears to sell may not be compatible with our cars. I would highly recommend enfig.com, they are very well known an
  7. If your car has steering wheel controls (and I think all Passats do,) you can also get a PAC SWI-CAN adapter which will not only let you use the steering wheel controls with your D3 but also gives u a switched 12V without having to run any kind of wires to the fuse box. http://www.pac-audio.com/products/produ ... 0Interface
  8. Looks good! I just got a D3 and now seriously considering this kenwood. what is the bypass you mentioned?
  9. If you're getting an ipod mainly for the car (like me) it doesnt really matter how thick/thin it is. It also doesnt matter how its interface performs, since you'll be controlling it through the headunit.
  10. I think he meant torrent trackers, not clients.. mininova, demonoid, pirate's bay are all good. as far as playing your music videos.. chances are they're already encoded to divx/xvid, so you don't need to convert anything. Check my guide on making xvid videos play on the d3: http://avic411.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4950
  11. You can just type in what you need into the box, no need to use drop downs
  12. Damn I was completely in the dark about the Kenwood dnx7100.. I might've jumped the gun with the D3 a bit too early. Not being able to navigate through the iPod videos on the unit is a real bummer. I wanted HD radio too..
  13. That's right. As you can see, the poster above you already got it to work using my instructions.
  14. Alright for all you non-believers saying that xvid and divx are "totally different codecs" (coocho, powa) here are step by step instructions to get your D3 to play Xvid, no re-encoding of any kind necessary. And it only takes a second. FAQ That's all! Let me know how it works out.

    Divx Format

Are you sure it didnt play because of the 5.1 AC3 audio? Xvid and Divx are both essentially MPEG-4, it has nothing to do with what companies make which. I'm getting my D3 today, I'll do a lot of testing then.
