  1. I came across this link: http://tzywen.com/modules.php?name=News ... le&sid=645 Which provides evidence that someone has figured out how to work around the new hardware setup of the 3G and newer iPhones. To me it would seem pretty simply to fashion a connector/splitter that will accept BOTH the current ipod connector attached to the D3 AND an additional reference voltage over pins 2 & 3 which is what is causing the new hardware to block charging. Has this been explored at all?
  2. that one is easy, press the daylight savings time button. It will add one hour
  3. Fiber or not as long as you buy the correct harness you are fine. The only thing that uses the fiber is the CD and Telephone which you lose once you take out the command unit anyway. Just get the correct VW harness (MB and VW use same stereo set-up) and connect everything as is. Keep in mind that you need to switch the constant and ignition wires else you will not be able to power down the unit. I have it installed in my M-class running through bose (it sounds like crap, but I have a lot f "free" music). To tell the truth when playing a CD through the unit, it sounds ok, definately much b
  4. All - Since the software of the D3 is not embedded on the circuit/within ROM, has anyone scrutinized the files on the DVD's supplied? There has to be a control file which is waiting for a response to this question at startup. Before I run off too much at the mouth has someone done this yet? I was thinking along the lines of a kernal file bypassing network login within windows.
  5. As the memory is base in the board it harnesses all of the control e.i. open/close function which basically means turn on DVD player, mute sound <> Nav Voice etc.....You will pretty much have to build a new unit, which gets back into the ridiculous. Its good to dream though, but they are right why not just get an external DVD drive to run the dvd functions it will cost you less FAR less, LOL instead of playing McGyver (if it aint broke dont try to fix it)
  6. Guys, I remember when I built my carputer set-up I was so concerned with theives so I built my LCD into a sliding bracket enclosure. This allowed for quick and easy repairs or mods and a great way for theives to be discouraged because they couldn't rip the LCD out of the faceplate. I started to build a bread basket door for this set-up(think of the of the capital letter "L" inverted and turned 90 degrees counter-clockwise) but never found the correct hinge to slide and pivot for the door. When reading a post on the theif deterance used I thought this was a good idea again as wel
  7. I tried that and thats how I got it to shut off in the first place. I will try it again since I am using a different ground point and its powering with no flicker. Hopefully I have isolated the culprit, I will keep you posted to my findings this afternoon.
  8. Hello All First THANK YOU for all of the post I have read. I have learned a lot about the AVIC D series. I am now installing a D3 into a Mercedes M-Class with the premium Bose package (nothing PREMIUM about it though) and I am having trouble with the install. First I couldn't get it to shut off but didn't notice the switched Battery and ACC locations. NOW I cant get it to retain memory or utilize the Antenna Power to power the Bose unit (I now have the Bose power connected to the ACC wire). I think I may have a faulty unit or harness, has anyone had these problems? I also want
