    2008 navi disks

I doubt it, cause it would need to be a whole new set of data and not just an update because the AVIC units use TELEATLAS and not NAVTEQ.
  2. Test the amps when the ignition is off (the amps should not be drawing any power). You can connect a digital multimeter to the lead coming into the amp. Check to see if there is any current being pulled from the battery while the ignition is off. Alot of times the amps are still drawing power while the ignition is off. Seeing how they were a recent install, maybe you just didn't notice the effects unitl now, or maybe you haven't left the car off for that length of time since the subs have been installed. Just a thought. There has to be a significant drain for the battery to die
  3. Even if the ipod was charging, it would take days before it drained an entire car battery. Do you have an amplifier installed? These are the biggest known drains on the battery. What other kind of acessories do you have installed in the car?
  4. How about a 3 day probationary period. During this time you cannot post, only read the forums. This will ensure every new member searches the forums before asking retorical questions, also, it will force them to learn and understand the forum as well; develop an appreciation for it. Not to mention that will eliminate alot of the SPAM. I know this doesn't answer the admin priveleges problem, nor do i have grounds to comment on that, but just seeing how these guys operate and how this forum works, i think it would be a huge loss if PAISAN was terminated, same goes for the other mods. Zen Vision:W

Here is a website that gives a good breakdown in features between the three (ipod, zen and zune). Just keep in mind if the size of the zen w, if you are going to have it wired in the car. THe thing is gigantic, i only mention this because i was going to do the same. go to a bestbuy or something and check all three out.
  6. Paisan, That site has some amazing prices. How are they with warranties and customer service? Thanks for the info
  7. you do make a good point, it is really the routing that's the factor. However, i do prefer navteq. Thanks for the nokia information. I guess we can look forward to some impressive phone based gps.
  8. Alright guy, relax a little. The man was just excited that he completed a $150 project by himself, and for a couple bucks. He was also thanking the forum. Coming from a similar backround, I have an EE degree, and I have installed quite a few car stereos, but never dealt with a navigational unit by-pass. If it weren't for this forum I wouldn't do it on my own, but it gives enough knowledge and confidence to do it myself. (Its really not that complicated, you would just never know until you researched it how easy it is) And this saves me a few, nothing wrong with that. It does take some kn
  9. Google uses NAVTEQ. So does GARMIN. Navteq maps are more reliable. Mapquest uses both NAVTEQ and TELEATLAS. But I don't think mapquest is that reliable, not as reliable as google anyways. Pioneer uses TELEATLAS, thus the reason your avic is not as accurate as a GARMIN device. But still not bad. In general NAVTEQ is tops, followed by TELEATLAS. I feel google maps are the most reliable, followed by yahoo and mapquest. Hope that helps
  10. Check out my yambag, squezing out of my banana hamock Sorry, i couldn't resist
  11. Unfortunately the unit will not be available unit late October, Early November. I have also been looking into this unit. Sounds pretty sweet, but a hefty $2400 price tag, and thats for the base model.
  12. Bad News Bears, Billy Bob Thornton [telling the kid's about the protective cups they have to wear] Also, you'll want to write your names on them because that's how you get Crabs. And trust me, you don't want to spend your Sunday afternoon picking through your pumpkin patch with a little comb.
  13. Use Nero, or Alcohol 120. Personally I always use nero. If you want to play it safe, make an .iso of the CD first, then burn it. If you going to use store bought media, cntrylvr79 is right, i would use memorex, or verbatim.

    AVIC 411 SPAM

Hey, I just had a couple quick thoughts on how we might be able to control all the spam posts to this site. They seem to be getting worse. 1. During registration, have one of those boxes that makes you type in what you see (this would remove automated spamming). 2. Perhaps have some probation time for new members, ie: your not allowed to post for a day or two. I don't think many of these programs/people are going to waite around 2 days to SPAM.Also, this will weed out those one time posters just looking for a quick answer, especially the ones who refuse to search. 3. Some kind
