  1. If I remember correctly, the yellow plug on models with the hifi option is for the speakers and go to the stock amp (these are not the high output speaker outs that you use if your not using an Amp). I spliced into these wires with RCA plugs and pluged them inot the amp outs on the back of the Z1.
  2. must mean a Porsche 911 Turbo (also known as a 996 Turbo).
  3. rcalcaide, I did installed a Z1 in my 2002 911 Cab. There is a picture of the install here on this site (just search for Porsche). You may also want to chack out Renntech.org under the 996 DIY section. I posted some picts and info about the connectors, etc. MIVEY.

    Bad business

This is a little off product (not the AVIC-Z1, but speakers). I tried to purchase some Focal speakers from acaraudio.com and these guys misrepresented their ability to deliver. They charged my CC immediatly but after a week there was still no progress in the online order status (site still said 'verifying order'). When I complained of no progress on my order they told me the speakers would ship out the next day. I told them I would be canceling the order if it did not ship the next day. So to stall even further, these guys went to fedex.com and entered a false shipment so
  5. Has anyone looked into the possibility of hacking the Gracenote Update process so that you could add other files (reformated mp3, bmp, etc) to the harddrive via CDROM? Pioneer recently released an update for the Gracenote database. From the update files, it appears it replaces the old database files with the new files provided by Pioneer. There is also a .inf file included with the update that I suspect is the install instructions. My guess is that every time you insert a CRROM into the AVIC-Z1 it looks for a .inf file. If one is present, it follows the .inf instructions. There is
  6. Release Date June 8th 2006. The update process may be a clue to how we add our own files via CDROM.
  7. I use photoshop on the Mac. However, if you just want a simple backgroud, you can use iPhoto to make is by taking one of you pictures, constraining it to the right size for the Z1 and adding any effets, etc you like. Once complete, export the file as a .jpg file type and your good to go. You can also use PowerPoint if you want to add text, etc....just remember to save the file as a .jpg.
  8. If an installer will not put the flasher in (or atleast step aside for 5 minutes while you install it yourself), then they do not need your hard earned money. An option is to provide the installer with the directions for install without explaining what the circuit does (don't ask, don't tell policy). As another option, you can have your installer label the 3 wires the flasher curcuit needs and make sure they are accessable from under the dash. The install is pretty simple, so you could just do it yourself after the shop is complete. I would NEVER purchase and install the Z1 without
  9. Just a moment ago I also received an email from Pioneer indicating my order has been shipped. The email included a copy of the invoice. I think if you are able to order from Pioneer, they have a product in hand. I assume I will get mine early next week at the latest.
  10. I received a tracking number today for UPS. It says it was shipped on the 19th.
  11. I ordered mine from Pioneer last night (7/18/06) and today it is showing 'Shipped' (and I canceled my backorder from Crutchfield today). Final cost including taxes & shipping = $136.10. Just checked today at 4:20pm Eastern and the button to order this item is now missing.

  13. I had to fabricate the 'faceplate' (the entire trim piece that directly surrounds the Z1). After creating the trim, I sanded it and used Rust-Oleum Textured Paint for Plastic (Black) to get the color / texture to match. Thanks for the kind words. I am really happy with the finished look.
