Best iPod Adaptor?

Recommended Posts

I had the iPod adapter for my N2 and it really really sucked. Supposedly the new line will have a better interface. But as it is right now I am running the Belkin car charger that has the line out on the plug for your cig. lighter. What I did was get behind my dash and tap in another 12v accessory socket and plug it in there, then run the 1/8" mini jack to RCA wire to the hide-away unit. The cable to my iPod comes from within my dash and is the only exposed wire. The good thing about this unit is that if your car cus off the 12v accessory jack's power when you turn off the car, it will pause the audio on the iPod because it thinks you unplugged your headphones. Then it will shutdown a few minutes later if the power isn't restored. Then when you get back in the car, it's as if you're pluggin your iPod into the wall and it automatically powers back up, with the song still paused, then you hit Play and it resumes right where you left off. The only downside to this is that you still have to use the iPod itself to change songs, etc. If you have an iPod video I recommend using the Roadgear cables so that you can view video as well out of the dock connector and it will work the same as the Belkin adapter as far as pausing, etc. Also I highly recommend the Belkin iPod holder that goes into the cup holder. It's a nice setup.

I am looking at buying the new one witch is CD-IB100ii but what is the difrence between the CD-IB100 and CD-IB100ii?

I emailed Pioneed support about this and this was the reply:

The only difference between the CD-IB100 and CD-IB100II is the connector was change to make it more secure with the iPod connection.

Thank You,

its not all software, its actually the processing power of the unit. The N1, D1 and N2 dont have fast enough processers to keep up with the iPod, but the newer units do. All according to the Pioneer rep I talked to at training

Forklift has it almost right. The advanced iPod interface requires a dedicated chip onboard the unit. If you plug the CD-IB100 (or CD-IB100II) into a unit that doesn't have this chip, it will see it as an External (EXT) device. EXT devices on the IP-Bus have limited functionality, meaning you will be limited to 8 characters on the display, and will have to access most functions through the Function menu. We don't advertise the iPod adapter as being compatible with anything except for the following:

DEH-P6800/680MP

DEH-P7800/780MP

DEH-P880MP

DEH-P9800/980MP

AVH-P5700DVD

AVIC-N3

AVIC-Z1

AVH-P6800DVD

AVH-P7800DVD

The AVIC-D2 did not receive the chip this year, as the only change from the D1 was a software upgrade.
