lehe
One of the cable that connects the DVD mech may have come loose or partially loose. If it is out all together it will say something like it can't use DVD mech.
AccordEX
would that be the wire in the back of the unit or ??? can we fix it at home?? this seem more tobe like a software problem
blackbox619
how old is it? did you buy it new? it might be caused by the eye laser, that happens from playing too many bootlegged dvds or cds. the bootlegs strain the laser eye making it work harder.

shartley
OK, I've replied to quite a few questions like this. I have the same problem on my BRAND NEW N3. It wont read any disc. After calling Pioneer directly I was told that the Laser Pickup was out of alignment. I was told to return my unit for a new one. If that is not possible, you can take it to a repair center and have the laser re-aligned for a reasonable fee. Shawn
