sirdrac15
Need help trying to install my unit. I've never installed a head unit before :? so the clearer and slower the instructions, the better it will be for me. Or if I need to have it done professionally, please advise. I'm also planning on getting Ducatiboy's bypass installed as well. Thanks in advance.
cntrylvr79
Might want to consider having it done professionally if you've never done anything like that before. The extra cost of the installation can far outweigh the cost of repairs should something bad happen. The other thing is I don't beleive there is a dash kit for the xtype. If that is the case then one will have to be fabricated.
sirdrac15
cntrylvr79 Thank you very much for your suggestion. Immensly appreciate it. I called 6th Ave to order my unit but they didn't have the wire and harness for my car. Do you have any idea where I can get one?

sirdrac15
It's a 2003 X type> I believe I have the factory head unit in. It's a V6 2.5L AWD. Here's an example of the head unit: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Jaguar-X ... dZViewItem I hope this helps you. ceger
It's a 2003 X type> I believe I have the factory head unit in. It's a V6 2.5L AWD. I ordered the install kit and wiring harness from Nexxia, an UK online auto audio website. Look at http://www.nexxia.co.uk/Car_Stereo_fitting_kits/jaguar.htm. However, you must be aware of a few things... - The X-type will not fit a double din radio like the Z1 flush. It will need to stick out at least 1 inch from the current dash. This is due to the climate control distribution boxbeing behind the top part of the area. - This requires a professional install to be done since they will have to craft your kit. However, having the one from Nexxia will cut costs since they can sculpt the neccessary adjustments on to that as a base. - You will need to take out the spacer from your drive shaft so that it sits lower and the screen can clear the knob when you open the Z1 to put in or take out a CD/DVD and in park. - Once installed, it sits low in comparison to where most people have it installed. You will need to take your eyes completely off the road to fiddle with it while driving. Custom radio install creation cost me $200 from Tweeter, but that price might be lower than normal. it is usually around $300-$400 for a custom install. As I said, the install kit from Nexxia does remove a good amount of the work stability-wise. That does not include installing the other components. However, I am completely happy with my setup. I have the Bluetooth adapter, XM radio with NavTraffic and the remote adapter so that I can still use the Jaguar steering wheel control. If you want Bluetooth or NavTraffic, then you are forced to go with the Z1, which is not so bad a choice at all with its stylings, features and 30GB HDD so that no Nav disc is necessary. If you do not need nor plan to use Bluetooth or NavTraffic, then you might want to go with the single din Pioneer unit that automatically pulls out and up for the display when your car is active. It will not get you any higher a screen position though, since it will need to be installed on the bottom half of the install kit. Additionally, the install kit is grey, not the black in the US X-Type, so you will need to paint it to match your interior. Anyways, good luck. Ceger
cntrylvr79
For the harness, I believe it's a 70-1770 which would be the 2 plug ford harness. I'm not 100% positive I know it's either the s or x type that uses that plug.
03Aviator
Actually, if I'm not mistaken, the D2 has NavTraffic capabilities.
ceger
Actually, if I'm not mistaken, the D2 has NavTraffic capabilities.
The D2 is a double din as well. Might as well get the Z1 for the X-Type then if that is a wanted feature. Ceger
cntrylvr79
The n series, d series, and z series are all navtraffic capable. Only the z1 is bluetooth ready.
sirdrac15
Thanks so much for all the help. I'll definitely get the kit from the UK. I really appreciate it. I definitely owe you pics now. I'll post them up as soon as I get the unit installed, which may be in a few weeks.
