EXCLUSIVE FIRST LOOK AT AVIC-F90BT!

Recommended Posts

I saw somebody posted a message saying you could use an SD card up to 32Gb. However, in the 900BT manual it says:

SD

Compatible physical format - Version 2.00

Max capacity memory - 8Gb

File System - FAT16, FAT32

Decoding format - MP3/WMA/AAC/WAVE/MPEG4

It also says it DOES NOT support SDHC, which is a big downer. I thought non SDHC cards only came in sizes of 2gb maximum.

right, non-SDHC cards only come in sizes of 2gb max. but since that quote you posted mentioned "Max capacity memory - 8Gb", that means SDHC is supported.

Actually, plain SD will go to at least 4GB. Here are 3 Transcend 4GB cards (Newegg.com).

Correct! 8GB or better requires SDHC support.

I apologize. Upon reading http://www.sdcard.org/home/ I see that plain SD supports only up to 2GB and that anything larger is SDHC.

According to http://www.sdcard.org/about/sdhc/, SDHC supports upto 32GB, so I'm puzzled why Pioneer would artificially limit the useable card size? Or, if they are supporting the specification properly, how they can limit it to only 8GB?

The posted US manual has reference to the SDHC logo at the back (copyright info etc). my guess would be typo for 8gb max.

another downer...

looks as though (again) the US model has fm radio RDS stripped from the unit (D3 was the same). The EU manual had details for RDS operation, no mention of it for our manual. :( you'd think something that was already in the unit would be easy enough to leave in.

All of this is so confusing. I'm just trying to understand the different ways to watch mpeg4 movies on the 90BT.

Jason, since you have your hands on one, have you had a chance to try movies via the SD slot or a USB hard drive?
