supernet
Alright, So here is what is going on, 2 months ago my D3 started to get static on FM channels, So I thought it was the radio going bad ( it worked fine for 1 month, and factory radio never had a problem). So last week I had the F90BT installed and still had static issues on FM, But another thing I noticed was the MSN Direct Signal almost NEVER has signal, some times it does for about a min and goes away, but I am thinking that is due to the fact there is static on my FM channels.... So my installer is trying to blame it on the grounding in my car, but I don't think that is the case because he used an external antenna and same thing happens.. and also when he put his hand by some wires behind the radio and messed around, he got signal for like 4-5 min. But what I don't understand is 1 day it just started to get static on the line.. I am in really disparate need of some help.

raptor22
First off what kind of vehicle do you have. Secondly what kind of antenna does your car have is it stationary, powered, built into the glass of the rear window. The grounding of the the vehicle makes no sense. Did you actually see the installer attach an external antenna to the rear of the radio or did he just tell you he did. The probability of have two radios in a row with a faulty fm tuner is pretty slim.
supernet
i have an 06 nissan maxima with the antenna built into the glass of the rear window . any ideas?
bobsyouruncle
Gonna take a WAG on this one... I'm going to guess your glass antenna is factory amplified. Check for an antenna amp fuse? I haven't been able to find any info about the actual transmission signal that the msn direct service is broadcasting on, but my guess would be that it is digital. I wonder if antenna amps will even pass the msn direct signal to the head unit? I've never used an antenna amp, so I really don't know. Just something to consider. You might also check the attachment point on the glass for the antenna wire itself. I have seen that those can come off pretty easily. Just a few thoughts.
superjet
Pin 5, green/white needs to see 12v whenever the radio is on. This includes using other sources, so the MSN is functional. Blue/white, not Blue from your deck needs to be hooked up to this wire in the car to get decent reception and MSN service.
openhelix
So should pin 5 just be jumpered to ignition-switched/RAP power?
superjet
That will work also.
vwlove
If you say you had a d3 that had static and if you put a f90bt in it and still has fm/am reception issues that mean their has to be something wrong in the car , by swapping headunits will not fix the antenna ,their has to be a link somewhere in the car that not right. And to have MSN to work you need to get almost perfect reception .
