Yeah, it's not very bright, so in high sunlight it can be a bit hard to see. But that is more prevalent when viewing on screen menus and interfaces and the like. The video is a lot easier to see than the menus. And as far as clarity goes it's great. Twice the resolution as my old D3, which already looked pretty good.

Hi-res screen must look sweet. Is it still hard to see in sunlight for most folks? Cause the hi-res screen is pointless if the screen is dim all the time.

I think the screen is awesome. i have no problem at all with sunlight. might be because of the location. the high resolution makes up for the small screen imo.

I hope JasonH chimes in cause he has a Mustang as do I. Guess it depends on the angle it's installed.

if the sun shines directly on myne the screen just looks white.

Uh yeah that's not good.

well its the glare off the screen. this was also at 8 in the morning with the sun beaming right through the rear window (no tint), and you can see what i mean in the picture under my posts.

I've been waiting to see with my own eyes the F-series, and finally my local Fry's has the demo unit.

So I went there yesterday, they had the F700BT sitting side by side with DNX5120 and DNX7120.

The DNXs' screens looked bright and clear,

while the F700BT looked dimmed and dull (at max brightness = 10).

Considering Pioneer makes the best LCD TV (Pioneer Kuro),

I can't believe they came up with such, dare I say, an awful screen for the F-series.

I'm sure it looks much better at night, but like most people, I'm in my car in the morning and afternoon time, when the sun is up.

I really want the F-series in my car, great feature at a reasonable price.

But the screen quality makes it a no go.

Other issues (bluetooth, hangs, IPOD, etc) they can fix with software patch,

but I doubt they can magically make the screen brighter.

  • 3 weeks later...

Just installed a F700 in a mustang 07 and the screen is indeed difficult to read. It's almost unreadable in daylight condition. it seems to me that the problem may be due to the display viewing angle. During installation (in the garage) it was quite legible since I was directly in front of the unit, but as soon I road tested it I realized I could not even read the map or the text during navigation.

Before installing the F700 I was using a garmin c330 on the dash and the screen was oriented exactly in my direction so the there was no glare, but definitely the LCD screen was better. I guess part of the "problem" is also the high resolution - i.e. smaller text. I'll test a little more at night to see the difference (I have the dim wire hooked up too)
