skicrave
The problem is that Pioneer used the wrong display for the application. My guess is that this is the only off the shelf LCD they could find in the right size with the resolution they wanted. Rather than build the right thing, they chose to save some money by using something that was already available. They should have used a transflective display, but the one included completely washes out with any reflection on it.
HiFiSi
Well another thing to consider... upping the brightness of the backlight over what it was originally designed to work at could drastically shorten it's life... And that is not cool when your backlight blows.
skicrave
Yep, that's why they should have used a transflective display. They don't rely on a back-light, and instead use a forward light source, which means they actually get brighter when the sun shines on them.
