RiCeBrnr
Would the ipod video cable (rca) be required or would the video signal be transported via the CD-IU230V? thanks.

The CD-IU230V is the ipod video cable. It's all you need. It transports data to the unit through the USB port and audio and video to it through it's RCA connectors. skoos
It will play videos off of CD's, ipod, SD cards, and USB drives. Video from an USB drive? Sure? http://www.avic411.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=15191 They told me that USB does not deliver Video, so USB drives only play music...
Phlame217
notsure about the whole usb thing but CD and DVD are two completely seperate things. They use different compression, different lasers(in some cases), and different disks.
HiFiSi
Skoos: Yes, it will play videos. I've done it myself as a test. Take a USB thumb drive and put some mpeg videos on it. It will play them the same way the SD card will. If you read the whole topic you linked to there you'd know that. Phlame217: Yes, they use different lasers and compression methods. But in simplest terms, a video file on a CD is just the same as a video file on a DVD, except you can't fit as much on to it.

I was afraid of buying ipods, because I don't really like the iTunes. But now, I don't even need it. Yeah. How about quality and response-times? I thought that playing Video files from the USB HDD might have better quality than from the Ipod (because Ipod is composite) Could someone please upload two images for me about the same video (first showing video from the Ipod and second from the USB drive)? Thanks!
Phlame217
mp4 is actually a decent quality on an iPod but since the player can read Divx from a cd and therefore most likely a usb drive, the usb drive will be much better. As for regular mpeg, there wouldnt be too much of a difference.
HiFiSi
It WILL NOT play dixv, xvid, avi files off the usb or sd ports. Only from the CD or DVD drive. The usb and sd slots only play mpeg4 or wmv videos. It's in the owner's manual at the end in the specifications section.

So putting divx movies on a CD won't work... or at least that's what the manual says. So for the 700's, the ONLY video source is ipod, usb, and sd card. And ALL 3 basically use the same file type, which is MP4.
