i would suggest you take it back and buy a 5th generation...here is a link: http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/W ... =Certified if there are no old generation availabe just check every day until they are and buy immediately....most likely you get error a0 or a11 in your screen, i had the same problem and never got it to work. Do not trust other people who tell the classic works with the n4...they do not work no matter what u do, just save yourself all the pain and trouble. Plus probably your ipod is going to be hidden in your glove compartment and u will only take it out to transfer songs, so there are no "visible" differences between the 5th generation and the classic.

Mine works! It started working after the latest firmware release and after my wife first connected her iPhone. No idea why but I connected my Nano then my Classic stopped working. I grabbed my wife's iPhone, connected it, then connected my Classic then boom! Back to working. Haven't connected the Nano since and haven't had any issues...
