Pioneer firmware updates

Recommended Posts

I am suffering from many of the same problems that others are with the new F900BT:

1) SLOW!!!! boot time

2) Static in GPS voice

3) Delay in touch screen input

4) Alphabetical only in iPod (used the script for adding numbers to track titles as a fix)

the thing that is concerning me is from everything I have read, Pioneer is VERY slow at releasing firmware updates for their units. With you people that have more experience that I with these style Pioneer units, should I look at trading this in for something else, or do you think that Pioneer will release updates shortly?

Thanks,

Justin

I think they released updates in the past slowly because the problems werent as obvious or bad. The system is a little slow but not that bad. No one in here knows if they will release a fix really soon its all speculation. I think they will in July because the fact that the system crashes when searching for a poi is a bad problem. Pioneer doesnt want to loose customers and they know they will if they dont fix them soon. Also they arent shipping units out now from what i hear until the problem is fixed. This will speed them up because you know they want the product in stores to make money. I would say be patient and wait, thats what im doing.

You have to buy the $75 binary keyboard peripheral, download the 350 page firmware update code in PDF form from their website, and manually enter it all into the unit in ones and zeros...

We had a pioneer rep here at our store last week and he brought along one of the Pioneer technical guys with him... His first questions were "what problems are you having with the AVIC-F series ???"

Anyway after a good couple hour chat with these guys I learned a few things and he told me that they hope to have the firmware and sortware updates out within a few weeks..He didn't have an exact time though..

So if I don't want to do the 1 and 0 route, how else do you update the unit?

We have no idea... since pioneer hasn't given out any info about it yet. My guess is it'll be a downloadable patch from their website you can use an SD card USB stick, or CD-R to put it into the unit. But that's just a best guess. There's no way to be sure until they actually give out some information about it.

Why would someone buy the first batch of a completely newly designed headunit? O.o lesson learned I guess. I know my local store said they were holding off on the first two batches (selling wise) because they have had problems with them and they were sent back to Pioneer for fixes, mainly software issues.

They will more than likely have a patch first, to test out any bugs, fix their current stock on hand and then start shipping.

Either that, or something will need to change in the hardware, which would mean sending current units in for service or replacement, just like what Kenwood had to do a few months back.

I myself will wait untill fall to buy one, since that would be the soonest units built right the first time will finally hit the market. It takes about 1 - 2 months before a deck is built today untill it hits a actual retail outlet.

Either way, the title of this thread sucks, since there is no update right now.
