My IPOD (80gb 6g classic) would occasionally fail. If you pressed next track or anything on the screen it would just go "beep" and go to off just like if you unplugged it. I tried everything and as a last resort ended up using a program to back up my ipod to my PC. I then used Itunes to restore (totally erase it) and copy all my movies and songs back on. It seems to have fixed that problem. Strange huh?

I still get the occasional problem now where I start my car and the IPOD just plain does not show up. The ipod itself shows that it is charging but does not show the pioneer logo. I have to press menu and the center button to reboot the IPOD and so far that has gotten it back up every time.

I am using the $50 apple cable.

Mine makes noise sometimes, too. It makes a soft clicking sound, even on pause. "click click click click........click click click click...click click click click." I noticed that the connection was a little loose and I wiggled it, and it seemed to make it better. That might be why I was getting a failed connection warning sporradically. I am going to replace the cable with a new one this weekend and see if it makes it any better.

Yeah this is very annoying it happens randomly, alot of time while I am driving. Make it seems rather hard for me to pull out the usb and plug it back in. So I have no music until there is a long redlight  . The ipod connection failure message keeps staying on the screen as well.

I have noticed that this happens consistently on my unit if my iPhone is connected to the usb cable while the unit is booting up. If I make sure the unit has finished booting up before connecting the iPhone everything works fine. The times when I do forget and leave my phone connected, it fails after about 10 minutes and the only way for me to get it working again is to restart BOTH my phone and the head unit.

Well I guess its not just me.

I'm getting more and more frustrated with this product every day - unfortunately I am in for a penny, in for a pound.

Has anyone heard anything solid from Pioneer about this problem?

I am finding I need to constantly plug and unplug my iPod to get it to work. No setting changes to the iPod or AVIC, no clear remedy to get it to consistently work. I've tried turning to radio before shut down. powering off iPod before replugging, Turning VR Cat update off or on... nothing seems to have any effect...

This is my second AVIC-F900BT (Pioneer took 5 weeks to replace my first one because of another issue). It has the firmware update (Pioneer did it). Brand new iPod Classic 120GB.

If anyone knows of a fix, I'm all ears!

Thanks all

Well I hope I'm not jinxing myself by saying this, but I haven't had a failed connection in over a week. It starts up when I turn the car on and stays on. Idk why the unit decided to stop being a pita, but I remember it stopped after I added some new artists to the ipod and it took a VERY long time to get it to catalog, along with a few failed attempts. Since then it's been fine. Also I was very attentive to the iPod UI idea, but it had no relation to the iPod failing.

I spoke to Pioneer Canada about this today, and they stated that they had not had any reported problems from consumers with regards to this problem.

The rep stated, after conferring with his product specialist, that the problem was more than likely with the ipod or the connection to the ipod, and not the head unit or cable.

I've had this ipod for a while (80gb video) but it worked flawlessly with my Clarion deck I just got rid of to pick up the F900, so I doubt it's an ipod problem.

Maybe if more of us complain to Pioneer, or if we get a list of people experiencing the same problem, we can go to them as a group.

Update:

So somehow I have managed to stop this issue from happening; at least it hasn't happened in a few weeks.

The only thing I've done is leave the iPod connected all the time. I have the AVIC-f900BT set up to NOT update the VR database. The "iPod Coneection failed" issue happened for the first few days after connecting it, but since then has not happened.

I am updating my iPod now - so will have to update the VR database again. I expect to run into the problem few more times, but hope it will stabilize.

It seems to me that the iPod issue is a software issue. There is obviously a connection, physically, and the hardware all is in good working order. It seems that during boot-up, if the iPod is on, it will more often than not magically disconnect itself once the unit goes into map-mode, or your bluetooth phone connects to the unit.

I have found a sort of a fix, however. Before I turn the car off, I go to a/v input, and select "Off".

Then, when I start the car, I give the head unit a ridiculous two full minutes to boot, and I don't touch anything...I don't touch any buttons, maps, or anything else. I wait until my bluetooth is fully connected (the blue light turns on and the message appears) and then I wait until the map fully populates on the screen. Only then will I go to the a/v input menu and select iPod.

This is a software issue, and it is possible for someone to make a software fix. Let's just hope Pioneer does what they should.

I have the same issue when using the iPod with the F900BT during Day 3 to Day 9 since owning the unit. Eventually the problem stopped occuring and I could not duplicate the problem. Since I do not sync my iPod very often, I did try the suggestion of a previous post to go ahead and disable the VR database update upon connection. So far, so good.

i use a 4g nano and i have had the same problem as everyone else. I had to unplug and replug it in at least once a day.The ipod stays in my car all of the time.

Here is the difference:

Yesterday i started my car and the ipod connection failed. Now it will not connect at all. Every time i connect it it says connection failed immeadiately. tried restarting the unit, restarting the car, wiping the ipod clean and putting music back on it, and finally i tested the usb on the head unit with a flash drive. Nothing will help. has anybody had this problem?
