mayerrony
I've noticed there are a few features present in the n4/n5 in the interface not available to the n1-3 versions. A firmware upgrade from Pioneer would fix this, but that is obviously not going to happen. Has anyone tried to put the N4 firmware into a n2 or n3? I've observed looking at service manuals and the nav dvd's, that the firmware files are numbered differently for every model. Here are my conclusions: 010 files -> 800 900 030 files -> n1? 040 files -> n2-n3, possibly n1? 050 files -> d1-d2 060 files -> z1-z2 070 files -> d3/n4 071 files -> n4, maybe n5 Has anyone tried changing the 071 files to 040 and then force the firmware write to see what happens?? I'll show and example of filenames for n2-3 and the n4. Model N2/N3 N4 Boot/Bios UC040BOT.GBR UC071BOT.PRG System/OS UC040DAT.USA UC071SYS.PRG GPS/Driver UC040SYS.PRG UC071GPS.PRG Nav. Those aren't on the cd. My n1 and n2 are off for flex cable repair and in my spare time I've been researching to see if this is possible.

JRSchwab
I spoke with Pioneer yesterday about upgrading 'firmware' with the 80MT disc and the impact it would have on my N2. He said that the firmware would allow the N2 to do all it could do, but wouldn't make it an N3, 4, or 5. Additionally, he remarked that to upgrade the N2 to a N3 - 5 would require various chips to be replaced that held new icons/graphics, etc for the user interfaces with improved functionality with various add on devices. About a year ago I had an extensive dialog with one of the 'upgrade' shops. He remarked that he had to get additional chips manufactured, before he could upgrade my N2 to a N3. I have the impression (from something I've heard or read??) that one can't upgrade any higher than an N3, don't know about the N4 to N5.
