chinaman_87
I've searched around the forums and it looks like I have a few options : 1. http://www.crutchfield.com/p_206PDVIDV2 ... ter&tp=122 This lets me charge my iphone as well when it is plugged in. question: 1. Can i plug this into my iphone without a dock? 2. can i tap the 12v power wire from the product above to the 12v power wire on the d3 so it will charge my phone as well? option 2. http://www.crutchfield.com/p_130CDRM10/ ... Fv+adapter For this option I would have to buy another set of rca's since the rcas on this won't connect together with rcas on the a/v harness on the d3 correct? option 3 http://www.radioshack.com/product/index ... age=search I plug the rcas to the back of the d3 and then the other end would go into the headphones jack on my iphone correct? Last question is the only option I have to charge my iphone while playing vids is the first option from above are their other ways besides getting a dock? If a dock is needed can someone list a part number because when someone posts a link from apple it goes to its home page instead of showing the item. Please clear up some of my questions and I appreciate the help. Sorry I'm very basic when it comes to electronics but I did search around and I did install the D3 myself and it powered on! thanks again

chinaman_87
the product you suggested looks like the first option I posted, Can I use my home charger dock that came with the phone? Can i connect it to the phone without the dock? thanks
MPTonyT
i dont understand why you would need to use the dock. the cable plugs right into the docking port.

w8lifter21
+1, I have a cable that has red/white/yellow on one side and a dock and USB on the other. I have a cig lighter adapter that accepts a usb connection so I use that to charge my phone, plug the cord in the dock port, and the RCAs connected to the AVIC. now I can watch video on the AVIC too
chinaman_87
can you post a picture of your setup as far as the usb cig lighter adapter and your iphone on the dock thanks. http://www.amazon.com/Universal-Apple-i ... im_dbs_e_3 is that what you're referring to? (im using http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000IMHDS2 right now) I'm also having trouble with my cables, either the plug is not plugging in all the way causing the video to flicker. ( I cant see an image but the screen flickers) when I do the connections suggested by another member: Red RCA plugs into Z's yellow RCA jack. Yellow RCA plugs into Z's white RCA jack. White RCA plugs into Z's red RCA jack. the monitor flickers and the left side of the car doesn't get audio if i do color to color on the rcas the sound is fine but the monitor doesn't flicker. Im plugging the 3.5mm jack into my dock that came with the iphone. Any help is appreciated. thanks Should I use the http://www.amazon.com/Universal-Apple-i ... im_dbs_e_3 paired up with the cables i already have? so i can view movies as well as charge on the go? chinaman_87
i used the radioshack cable listed and no video came out so i finally gave up and bought the apple component a/v cable http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB128 ... MjE1NTI2OA use the dock you have at home. $49.00 instant video.
rcasey
How did you go from Component to the D3? RC
rcasey
Get the following device holder... http://www.proclipusa.com/?sectionpath=143&pageid=14039&processor=content&pcategoryid=13759&categoryid=17248&p_origin=143&p_sectionid=143&p_pageid=8900&p_processor=asp&p_asp_processor=product&p_action=proclipcategorysearch&p_ppagecategoryid=&p_pagecategoryid=&p_pcategoryid=13759&p_categoryid=17248&p_sitecategoryid=&p_year=&p_countryid=0&p_leftorright= This will allow me to hook up the connection of choice to the bottom for easy attachment/detachment. Use the following cable from there to the D3 to power and send audio/video... http://www.crutchfield.com/p_206PDVIDV2/Soundgate-Universal-A-V-Cable-for-iPod.html?search=a%2fv+adapter&tp=122 What do you think? chinaman_87
i have a closeable cubby above my d 3 so i cut a hole under the cubby to bring my apple dock connector up there so i can put my phone in there when i want to hook it up. You can always try that cable from soundgate but i didn't want it because if it doesn't work I have to pay to return it to crutchfield. I know for sure that the apple rcas work. So instead of the headache I would just go for the apple cables just to ensure they work the first time instead of trying different cables and being disappointed
