INFO HERE ON THE UNIT

now as you can tell it is a jap one and has a few added extras.

TV (Inbuilt )and VICS (traffic radio that is jpn specific) are a few differences. the unit is an 06 version .

I have had it along side this one

which is a AVIC HD3. the button layout, menus, controls are the same EXCEPT mine is in japanese with japanese maps and the FM radio is out of kilter (JAPAN runs 76.0Mhz-90.0 Mhz onthe FM band - AM is 522-1620.- thats fine for me)

I need 87.7 mhz - 107.9 Mhz in 100 khz steps.

otherwise they are the same unit.

my thinking is the chassis is the same and the soft/firmware is different.

it runs a 30Gb toshiba drive same as the Z series you get and I figure a soft/firmware swap would fix 99% of it.

apart from swapping the FM Front end out for the local one what else am I up for.

been reading about firmware updates and the HDD images - am I on the right track here?

freebies are good and if I can find a HD3 image and firmware update I'd be a lot happier :P
