JasonH
Just wanted to let everyone know that this evening I will be moving the site over to a faster and more equipped server! It should keep the site from having it's random lockup issues. Basically the forum database was exceeding the amount of RAM the server had and was causing it to crash or slow to a crawl. The new server is a 2.33Ghz dual core Intel Xeon with 2GB of RAM! Please let me know if you find anything not working correctly!!! Thanks, Jason
CaptainInsaneO
The new server is a 2.33Ghz dual core Intel Xeon with 2GB of RAM! Yeah, but does it run Crysis?
JasonH
haha, sadly, no
DarkMaster
just 2 gigs? My quad core at home has 6X that amount of ram...and yes it does run Crysis. just curious though, what were the old system specs?
JasonH
just 2 gigs? My quad core at home has 6X that amount of ram...and yes it does run Crysis. just curious though, what were the old system specs? 2GB is plenty for a linux server, it just runs apache and mysql. Email is offloaded through gmail. The old system was a 1.6 Xeon with 1GB of RAM. The forum database was constantly using it all up.
petrocelly
is it your colo or you use dedicated ? If it was a colo I would not hesitate to max it with ram, since the ram is today cheap. But its nice to see that the server is twice as fast and more capable then before
JasonH
It's a dedicated through GoDaddy. Trust me, if it was a colo, it would have a 3ghz Quad Core with 8GB! lol
CaptainInsaneO
Man you must be pulling some sweet ad revenues to be able to afford a dedicated server. But since it's dedicated you could definitely host all future Z series images! Woohoo!
StephWRX
Hi Jason, One question, how many time to convert to phpbb3? I have also a forum (with a little more messages ) and my first try run during 3 days... My forum have 1 474 223 posts and 10 969 members Thanks Steph
CaptainInsaneO
I'm surprised to find the new DNS lookups for this server have already hit my network. I'm impressed!
dnahas
Too bad the new server doesn’t allow me to search for “Verify VSSâ€. The following words in your search query were ignored because they are too common words: verify vss. You must specify at least one word to search for. Each word must consist of at least 3 characters and must not contain more than 14 characters excluding wildcards.
JasonH
I'm working on fixing the search.

CaptainInsaneO
It DOES run a thousand times faster. You should now hold a design contest or something so we can design the new forums! (The default theme is a friggin' eyesore).
