New iPhone 3.0 Firmware not compatible with AVIC 900BT?

Recommended Posts

I am an iPhone Dev, so I currently have access to the latest seed of the iPhone software. Previously, when running 2.1 my iPhone would complain that the "accessory" being connected wasn't compatible but things still worked just fine (played music, charged, etc). Now however, I don't get any message on the iPhone (other than it is charging) but the AVIC after about 10 seconds throws up a message saying "Unable to connect to iPod, please reconnect."

I've tried just about everything I could think of (disable bluetooth, enable airplane mode, fresh restart). So it looks like some of the changes Apple made with the 3.0 firmware have caused it to break compatibility with the AVIC and the iPod cables. If anyone here has contacts with Pioneer, I can supply a FEW copies of the firmware (I type in your device ID, and you can upgrade). Note that you can not downgrade back to 2.0 once you upgrade. I am not looking to just give out copies to everyone, but rather people that could actively work towards getting things up and going again.

Or if anyone has any thoughts on things to try, let me know.

thanks for the heads up man! I appreciate you looking out for us.

I know this is off topic but if I'm running an original 2G (silver back) iphone, am I going to be able to mms? I forgot what website said that only 3G users will get that benefit. you are welcome to PM me to keep this thread on topic.

Oh, and as an at&t employee, thank you for helping with iphone 3.0 software, it's already making people excited and I closed a few sales today with that knowledge.

According to Apple, No.

any particular reason why not? I'm hi-jacking this thing! It's a bitter sweet hi-jack though, the more often I ask stupid questions the more likely someone from pioneer will see this

It's called "planned obsolescence". You'll never see an iPhone with MicroSD slot for the exact same reason.

The funny thing is part of this 3.0 update is improved API support for 3rd party accesories... they showed off glucose monitor accessories and speaker docks with equalizers that can be controlled by an app in the 3.0 firmware preview. I was actually hoping the new firmware might give the AVIC's more control over the iPhone, if Pioneer (or someone in the hacking forum) was willing to make an app I think they could pretty easily add some awesome functionality. Guess I was wrong though.

I've been running 3.0 for 2 weeks now. I can report actually that I discovered a glitch which will screw up the interfacing with the F900. Initially immediately after I upgraded to 3.0 the audio was working, but I found the next day I was getting 'could not connect' errors. However, it seems I accidently stumbled upon a solution. Somehow if you move music around on the iphone, copy new albums, delete some, it gets the interface going again. After a second time having the issue, I did just that and voila, it was working again, fine for over a week. Now having gone to 3.0 beta 2 in the last 2 days I've found the issue has come back. So last night I had to recopy some music that I hadn't put back on the iphone yet, hopefully when I go out shortly it will be back functioning again. I'll confirm that it is or isn't shortly.

EDIT: confirmed, iphone ipod interface is working normally once again.

Aren't you being a tad impatience. 3.0 beta and the new SDK have been out for a couple of weeks. I'm sure there are some people who would be keen to develop such apps, perhaps even Pioneer given time(certainly not going to happen overnight with them). As it stands there's still plenty of time for people to develop avic enhancing apps to be available when 3.0 is officially released in June...

When you say move music around, do you mean like add/remove playlists in iTunes and then resync? And once you reconncet to the AVIC, things are good?

Correct. Be it playlist or however you have you music setup, in my case albums I manage manually and copy into a playlist on the iphone.

I've had zero hiccups since the initial repeat of the original connection issue after the beta 2 update nearly a week ago.

Jeez I'm a tad slow on that, I haven't read modmyi for 2 days and bingo beta 3. To me the test of beta 3 will be whether it works off the bat with my iphone and car interface. That was the previous issue, which as I've said can be worked around very easily.
