AVIC-D2 and Windows

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

Does anyone have there AVIC-D2 connected to a carputer? I thought I saw something on the outside of the box that said windows compatiable.

Instead of buying the pioneer 6 disk DVD changer, or getting a non-pioneer brand (that wont allow me to use the screen), I thought about installing a carputer with windows instead. That way I can still use touch screen, get DVD playback and have a massive MP3 jukebox.

Has anyone does this? If so, what windows do I need to use touchscreen?

I assume this would work though the video IN and audio IN ports right?

If anyone can drop some info, I would appreciate it.

Thank you!

No need to purchase an expensive carputer. Purchase the Vantec AVOX Mobile Media player:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6855182001

then purchase yourself a 120GB notebook harddrive for it like I did, and instant gratification! This thing plays mp3's, wma's (except WMA9 Lossless codec), OGG, ripped DVD's, ripped DVD's in ISO format, mpgs, DiVx (avi's), etc etc. I have one in my truck hooked up to my N3 through the AV inputs and works great! I have several DVD's on it, many music videos, and TONS on mp3's/wma's as well!

Interesting... So this thing will connect though the audio and video inputs of my D2 and allow me to use the touchscreen?

unfortunately no, you cannot use the touchscreen interface to control it, but you cannot use the D2 touchscreen for a carputer interface either. The Avox comes with an infrared remote I use to control it. It does connect to the audio/video in, so I can see what's going on

Are you sure I can not use a carputer though the touch screen? I dont have the box in front of me now, but I thought I saw something that said windows compatiable or something?

Yeah. I want to use my screen to navigate to my music. Hence the reason I wanted a carputer.

Are you sure it didnt say "XM NavTrafficâ„¢ Ready"?? Look at Pioneer's website. No mention of Windows at all.

Ram,

I've been into the carputer thing for a few years and there is no way that I know of to hook the head unit up to the computer. Even if you could, the screen resolution of the head unit is not going to do justification through a RCA input, it would just look grainy.

A nice solution would be a UMPC device, if yo do not know what they are you can learn about them here http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/umpc/default.mspx and then just run the audio out to the stero's aux. in, at that point you could still view your nav on one screen and a video on the UMPC.

Can anyone tell me how well this would work on a D2?

Thanks,

Mike
